Obituary of Donald Turner Byers

Donald Turner Byers December 23, 2012 Dad was born April 3, 1936 in Swift Current, Saskatchewan. He received his education there and started his working career with the Department of Highways, then later worked for the SaskPower Corporation. In 1963, he transferred to the Gas Department of SaskPower and stayed with Trans Gas until his retirement in 1994. He loved his job as a gas quality control technician and covered many miles in the province he dearly loved. Dad was very active in his union, and the Regina Labour Council. He worked very hard for the working people and underprivileged in this province. Politics were a huge part of his life both before and after retirement. He was interested in provincial, federal and global events and elections. He met many great friends through his lifes interest and was not hesitant to talk to any person on any subject in any place and voiced his opinion as he saw it. Dad was truly a man of principle, and whether you agreed with him or not, he never compromised his principles. After retirement, mom and dad moved to Maple Creek and dad became very involved with the SaskPower retirees and the CURC, and fought very hard with his fellow associates for the protection and indexing of pensions. Dad was always renovating and available to help his neighbours or a widow or widower who required some maintenance of their property. Dad was predeceased by his parents, Sam and Berle Byers of Swift Current; sister-in-law Patricia Byers (Jim) of Red Deer, AB; mother-in-law Sylvia Sadlemyer on November 16, 2012 and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He leaves to mourn his wife of 51 years, Donna, the most beautiful woman in the world;? his three beautiful daughters, Tanya (Robert) Lorenzo; Melody (Todd) Trytten and Barbara Genert (Wes), whom he was so very proud of; six wonderful grandchildren whom he loved most dearly. Sam, Lyndsey (Travis), Wesley, Sydney, Karla (Kenny), and Kelly (Tyree); and one great-grandchild Kendyl; brother Jim of Red Deer, AB; as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. A Memorial Service will be held at the Elks Hall, 521 - 5th Avenue, Maple Creek, SK on January 3, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. Please accept this as an invitation to join the family in the Celebration of Dads Life. We love you dad and miss you greatly!
