Walter was our “almost neighbor” because we lived next door to, and shared a driveway with, his daughter Sandra.
We had one problem with him! He would frequently steal our snow (shovel our driveway) before we had the opportunity to do it, even though he was over ten years our senior. He set a very high standard!
Over the years, we got to know him, and to observe what a good dad he was. Once, this fatherly advice spilled over onto me. I was packing my car for a business trip and he suggested to me, strongly, that I should postpone it because of the weather.
We spoke during his illness, which he faced openly and couragously. He had faith in the Lord, and knew where he was going, so death may have won this round, but not the fight!
He will be greatly missed and we are praying for comfort for all of his family.

I am so sorry to hear of Walter’s passing. Mom and dad were neighbors for years and enjoyed every minute of that. You couldn’t ask for a finer man. The whole family was great.
Many times Waiter was up early to clear snow at his apartments or home and while at it he would do mom and dad’s, too. That’s just the way he was.
Walter was a successful man in every way; personally and professionally. He could talk intelligently about anything and throw in some light hearted humor just for fun.
His friendship was always special to all of us in our family. Mom and dad always had kind words for Walter and Elaine. They were at the top of their list of favourite people.
Mom and dad grew up on farms doing work by hand. They admired Walter. You had to respect the man’s work ethic. Man that guy could work!
I always remember Walter in his white Honda Prelude with the top of his head showing just above the sun roof. He was a big man with an even bigger heart.
I’m going to buy a six pack of Boh this weekend and have one for Walter. He will be missed.

Elaine, John, Joanne, Sandra and families.
Walter was a great kind soul and I am a better person to have known him. I loved coming to Regina to visit my grandparents and spending half my time at your house with Sandra. We loved our chats, how you looked out for my grandparents and just the bond that great neighbours had. Our family was always welcomed and we learned a lot in the garden between Grandpa Nick and Walter. Know you are all in my thoughts and prayers and may you be comforted with the great memories you shared.

Elaine & Family
My condolences. I had the privilege to know Walter for over 20 years, I truly enjoyed every single meeting we had, many of our discussions never really covered business, but we did often discuss the Riders, City, Province, Politics, etc. But his most passionate topics were his family. I would describe Walter has a very honest man, never afraid of hard work, very successful, yet extremely humble, a man that most of us should aim to become, Walter to me was a "great" man, one that I am very proud to have known, one that I will miss.

Wally was the best Supervisor I ever worked for. He always said “the only guys who never make mistakes are the ones that aren’t doing anything”. He would follow that up with “just make sure you find your mistakes before the next shift comes in”. Wally took care of his guys. If there was an overtime to be had he always called his guys first. When other supervisors brought donuts for Safety Meetings, Wally brought carrots and cucumbers and corn and radishes....from his garden. If you respectfully declined his food, he pushed it closer to you and said “eat”.
Walter was a salt of the earth man. He was strong as an ox and had hands the size of a grizzly’s paws. He worked hard and expected those he supervised to work hard too. He made better men out of everyone of us. Walter was respected by every single person at the Refinery. But he wasn’t just about hard work. He liked to have fun and there are many many Wally stories. And as I said above, he cared about his guys. He often shared things about his own family and he was always interested in hearing about yours too. He truly had a heart of gold.
I was fortunate to see Wally a few days before he passed and although he was not able to talk to me, he shook my hand just like he did 30 years ago. Wally thanks for all you taught me and for keeping me out of trouble. You are truly one of the best men I have ever known.
My most sincere condolences to Walter’s family. I am gonna miss him.

To Walt's Family
My deepest sympathy to you in this time of your great loss. I was first trained by Walt, when I started at the refinery, and worked along side him for many years. He was a great mentor, a great worker, friend and most of all, a great man. He will be missed.
