Obituary of Leah Ardell Harlton

HARLTON, Leah Ardell
November 4, 1918 - April 21, 2019
Our matriarch (and beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother) passed peacefully, leaving behind a multitude in mourning but thankful for many years of love and happy memories.
Leah was predeceased by her parents Nora and Clifton Allcock; baby daughter Claire, siblings (and in-laws) Norman (Hughena), Stan (Margaret), Viola (Bert) and Bertie (Jim); brothers-in-law Mantford, Jack (Ruby), and Jerry (Diane), son-in-law Hew and her husband Turner (Ty). Ty died shortly before their 50th wedding anniversary. She is survived by her children Brent (Heather), Lenore, Bertie (Bruce), Valerie (Rod) and Earl (Jackie); 12 grandchildren: Kelly (Vanessa), Riley (Tana), Carol ( Bruce), Alanna, Aura, Morgan (Trevor), Connie, Ryan (Amanda), Lonnie (Delee), Angela (Barry), Tyler, Jeannine (Darcy) and Bevan (Ariane); 21 great-grandchildren, and many also cherished nieces, nephews and friends.
Raised in Belle Plaine, Leah moved to the Pense district after her marriage. Although she excelled academically, attaining a 98% average in her final government exams, she was most proud of her role as a homemaker and farmer's wife. While that role was certainly labour intensive, Leah also took an active part in her community. She was a significant supporter of the Anglican church, Women's Auxiliary and Eastern Star and supported all the rink and town hall activities, not just the curling bonspiels she enjoyed so much. In the early years, the family spent many happy summers at their cottage at Grandview Beach.
Leah was a talented pianist and artist, and later took art classes at Qu'Appelle and down south. In retirement they spent many winters in their second home in Palm Desert, CA., where she became a competent and enthusiastic golfer. Eventually she wintered and then lived in Victoria, holidaying in Arizona and travelling with and visiting her children often. Hers was a busy life, which may explain her exceptional health until almost the very end.
One of her mottos was "Don't invite me if you don't mean it, as I will always come". And she did, making many happy memories for those she is leaving behind.
