Marion was born on December 5, 1929 as one of 13 children and raised on the family farm near Lintlaw. She attended school in Lintlaw and Lebret and following graduation she received her teaching certificate from the Normal school and taught at rural schools in Lintlaw and Kempville school divisions. It was while teaching near Spring Valley that Marion met and fell in love with Wes Baiton, whom she married in January, 1949. They moved from Spring Valley to Moose Jaw and finally settled in Regina, where Marion raised her eight children. To make ends meet, she worked a variety of jobs such as substitute teaching, sales clerk at the Bay, waitressing at the airport restaurant, just to name a few. Marion also managed to volunteer as a Girl Guide leader and for the PTA, as well as helping at the parish whenever she could. She strived to provide for her family and wanted the best for her children. Family ties were very important to Marion, and she loved spending time with her siblings and their families. She enjoyed puzzles and card games, and was an excellent Scrabble player. Marion had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed sharing stories and laughter with others. She had a wide circle of friends that she remained in close contact with; some of her friendships have spanned the course of 50 years or more. Marion was a very caring and accepting person, and was always willing to listen to anyone’s problems and to help people in any way she could. She had a strong faith and was deeply committed to her spiritual life, sharing the love of Christ with so many people and impacting the lives of so many around her. Marion’s beautiful spirit will be forever missed by her family and friends.
