Obituary of Carl Anselm Weisshaar

CARL A. WEISSHAAR April 23, 1925 January 17, 2013 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend Carl A. Weisshaar (Brother) on January 17, 2013 at the age of 87. Carl A. Weisshaar of Regina, Saskatchewan, was born on April 23, 1925 to Margaret (nee Kelley) and Carl Anselm Weisshaar Sr., on the original Carl Weisshaar family farm site, 25 kms south of Regina. In 1930 the family moved to Wilcox, Saskatchewan to the current site of the Weisshaar Brothers Family Farm. Carl grew up in a rich family farm tradition and was moulded by the tough times farmers endured in the 1930s, regular trips back to his parents home in America, hunting and fishing trips with his father and brother John and many other childhood adventures. Carl continued to play hockey and baseball until family life filled his time, and he enjoyed curling throughout his life, up until a year before his passing. Carl attended school at Notre Dame College in Wilcox under the tutelage of Fr. Pere Athol Murray. He continued to serve Pere on the alter at mass well into his adult years and it was through his lifelong friendship with Pere Athol Murray that his deep faith in God continued to grow. Carls lifelong passion lay in farming, for many years with his father Carl and brother John and later with two of his sons, Mark and Anthony, until a year before his death. When his health prohibited him from active involvement on the farm, he continued to help in any way his health allowed by running for parts, helping to move equipment from field to field and later simply offering quiet advice and assurance , when needed. In 1967 the family moved from the family farm to Regina where the children attended St. Matthews School and the family became lifelong parishioners of St. Martins Catholic Church. In addition to singing in the choir for more than 40 years, he enjoyed many activities at the church, attending morning mass as often as possible, was a member of the Knights of Columbus and continued to add to his list of life-long friends through these affiliations. Carls faith defined him. It was pure, unconditional and clear and he lived his faith each and every day of his life. Carl lived his life as a Christian in the purest sense of the word. He lived daily by his lifelong motto, moderation in all things? and it was by his example that he wished his family and those around him to do the same. In recent years, Carl continued to enjoy his morning coffee with his parish friends the Senators and many other retirees at the Southland Mall where they shared farming stories, bad jokes and argued politics. He missed these morning chats dearly and had hoped to have a chance to coffee with them once more. Carl and Rose spent their time visiting with friends at the Southland but also visiting friends and family, spending time relaxing in Wascana park, driving out to Wilcox to see the seeding or harvest progress and keeping up with the busy lives of their four children and 8 grandchildren. Carl leaves behind to mourn, his wife Rose of 53 years, his children Mark (Sandie), Anthony (Taya), Kathy (Paul), Paul (Wendy) and his grandchildren Megan, Matthew, Alex, Easson, Madelyn, Grace, Benjamin and Hayden. He is also survived by his sister Teresa Metz of Regina, sister Mary Ann Boll of Eugene, Oregon, and brother John (Roseline) of Peterborough, ON as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. A Funeral Mass and Service to Celebrate Carls life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 24, 2013 in St. Martin R.C. Church, 4720 Castle Road, Regina SK S4X 4X1 with Rev. Gary Lindenbach presiding. Interment at a later date in Wilcox Cemetery. We wish to extend our gratitude to his special niece and her husband, Gretta Lynn and Eldon Ell who have been so generous in their love and care of both mom and dad. We also thank the extraordinary care of dads doctors, Dr. Zagozeski, Dr. Tse and Dr. Duffy. Special thanks to the wonderful nurses and caregivers at Home Care, Palliative Care and the Infusion Unit at the Pasqua Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Athol Murray College of Notre Dame, P. O. Box 100, Wilcox, SK S0G 5E0 or to St. Martins Parish Memorial Fund, Regina, Saskatchewan. We are grateful to God for the many years we have had with Dad and will miss him dearly. To leave an online message of condolence, please visit www.speersfuneralchapel.com
