On Friday, July 12, 2019, Jean, loving wife and mother, passed away at age 87. She was born on May 24, 1932, in Regina, SK to Hubert and Etna Hastings. On September 6, 1952, Jean married Alex Sojonky and together they raised two children, Karen and Ken. Jean spent her entire life on the prairies. Summers were spent at the family cottage at Buena Vista Beach on Last Mountain Lake. She had a passion for painting, starting with oils in the early 1960s and then changing to water colours in 1992. Jean’s paintings were especially noted for the unique sense of colour and reflected her love of the wonderful Saskatchewan scenery. She was a member of the Prairie Artist Guild and participated in numerous art shows over the years. Jean was known for her selflessness, her infectious smile and laughter, and her kind and compassionate spirit. She was preceded in death by parents, Hubert and Etna; sister Nelle; and brothers, Ted and Bud. Jean is survived by her husband Alex; daughter Karen (Jim); son Ken (Sue); grandchildren, Jordan, Zachary (Katherina), Joel, Olivia, and Quinn; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
