Obituary of Elizabeth Crabtree

ELIZABETH BETTY? CRABTREE January 9, 1920 February 25, 2013 Betty Crabtree passed away peacefully in Regina at the age of 93. She was predeceased by her parents Thomas and Gertrude Lax; husband John Jack? Crabtree and daughters Maureen and Trudy Crabtree; as well as her brothers and sisters-in-law John and Eileen Lax, Thomas and Winnie Lax; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Doug and Bette Catling. Betty is survived by her son, Harry (Shivon) Crabtree of Calgary and grandchildren Jack and Catherine Crabtree; son-in-law Garnet Holizki of Calgary and grandchildren Alexis (Jeff) Crabtree of Vancouver, Spencer (Kim) Holizki of Edmonton and great-grandson Robin Crabtree. She is also survived by nephews Jack (Myra) Lax, Bill (Bonnie) Lax, Don (Shelley) Lax; nieces Virginia (Garry) Munro and Marlyn (Michael) Keaschuk. Betty was a lab instructor for many years in the Biology Department at the U of R. She had a fondness for all animals, from the horses at the family farm at Condie, to the Canada geese at Wascana Lake, to the salamanders in her office at the U of R, but she especially loved little dogs. Betty was born and raised in Regina and attended Scott Collegiate and Regina College. She spent summers at the family cottage at Buena Vista and enjoyed many athletic pursuits throughout her life. As a young woman, she enjoyed water skiing, softball and badminton, and belonged to the Lakeshore Tennis Club. In later life, she curled, played golf and liked to line dance. In retirement, she had a great passion for playing bridge. Betty was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a shining example to her family of the power of perseverance and love.
