Obituary of Noreen Edwards

It is with deep sadness and yet gratitude for 90 years that we announce the passing of our loving and caring mother and grandmother.  Noreen passed away on Tuesday, July 23, 2019 with family by her side. She was predeceased by her husband, Bill; her parents Christina and Norman Flynn; and sisters-in-law Irene (Frank) Harper and Ethel (Wilson) McIntyre. Noreen is survived by her children, Richard (Laurie) Edwards, Murray (Lysanne) Edwards and Lori Edwards; grandsons, Paul Edwards, David Edwards and Adam Edwards; brother Murray (Anne) Flynn; and six nieces and nephews and their families, Carol (Rick) Mills, Wayne (Connie) McIntyre, Carolyn (Susan) McIntyre, Ross (Debbie) McIntyre, Trevor (Wendy) Flynn and Deanna (Erv) Wiebe.

Noreen was born in Moosomin, Sask.  When she was 2 years old, her mother passed away.  She and her brother Murray were raised by their father on a farm near Langbank, SK. After graduation she attended teacher's college in Moose Jaw.  She taught in Regina and Kennedy where she met Bill.  Noreen and Bill were married on June 26, 1954.  They were married for 60 years upon Bill's passing in 2014.  After Richard was born, Noreen chose not to teach anymore. Her passion was her children and grandsons and their educations.   In October 1972, Noreen was in a terrible car accident and needed emergency brain surgery. Dr Krishna Kumar operated and saved her life.  Noreen was always extremely grateful to him and became good friends with him and his wife, Shubha. Noreen was a member of the James Henderson LL. D. Chapter IODE for 50 years.  She was their regent and then became President of the Sask. Provincial IODE Chapter.  She also was the Regina co-ordinator for Encounters with Canada for 12 years where high school students travelled to Ottawa to learn about the government of Canada.  She was a charter member of Wesley United Church. Noreen loved to travel. Her travels included the United Kingdom, Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Europe and the Scandinavian countries.  Many summers were spent enjoying the family cottage at Kenosee Lake.

The family would like to thank her god-daughter Carol and Marvin Mullaney for their assistance and friendship for many years.  Thanks to the Victoria Park Personal Care Community and their staff and the doctors and nurses of 4B at the Pasqua Hospital for their care and compassion. She was a truly warm and loving person and an even better mom. A Celebration of Noreen’s Life will be held at Wesley United Church, 3913 Hillsdale St, Regina, SK, on Saturday, August 3, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. Interment in Riverside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, those so wishing may make a donation in memory of Noreen to Wesley United Church, 3913 Hillsdale St., Regina, SK, S4S 3Y2.
