Obituary of Bill Marquardt

Bill Marquardt was born October 17, 1933 on the farm near Lang and baptized at St John Lutheran Church.  He grew up in a hardworking farming family with 2 brothers and a sister, living through the dirty 30’s with its struggles, however he had fond memories of his childhood.

Bill and Shirley were married on November 10, 1956, and their love affair spanned almost 63 years. As a young man Bill farmed spring through fall, and worked for Sears as a Christmas toy buyer in the winter.  April 15, 1961 Bill & Shirley bought their first home and farm in the Forest School District by Lumsden.  They worked side by side putting their love and toil into creating a beautiful yard and renovating the 1897 farm house to raise their family.  They were blessed with 2 children, Candice born in 1958 and Rod born in 1961.  Bill found a lot of joy raising his children and passed on his faith, his hard work ethic, and his love of farming, fastball and life skills.  He played with the Forest men’s fastball team, was a member of the farming community and a faithful member of Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, Lumsden, then later they were part of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Regina and for the past 13 years have been members at Mount Olive Lutheran Church.  Bill loved football, he started following the Roughriders in 1948 at age 15 and remained a fan his whole life.

Bill and Shirley made many good memories with their 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren starting with the birth of their first grandchild Patti in 1979.

Bill and Shirley enjoyed traveling together in their motorhome in the winters. He loved to drive and had a second career as an auto broker and truck driver for his son’s company, Wheat Country Motors. Later in life he came out of "farming retirement" to instill his love of farming in his grandson Aidan.

Bill was well-liked and respected wherever he went. Above all else he valued his Christian faith and his family.

Willy “Bill” Marquardt passed away peacefully August 5, 2019 at the age of 85 years.  He was predeceased by his parents Julianna and Rudolph, brother Gary, sister Evelyn (Don) Binnie, sister-in-law Shirley Marquardt of Kelowna, mother and father-in-law Esther and Clarence Johnson, brother-in-law Wallace Johnson.  Bill will truly be missed by his dear wife, Shirley, his daughter Candice (Greg) Propp, son Rodney (Glenda), grandchildren Patti Lambert, Andrea Propp, Carmen (Mark) Arron, Sydney (Chay) Kitts, Aidan (Ashlin) Marquardt; great grandchildren Kaia and Mackenzie Arron and Hadley Marquardt, brother Walter, sister-in-laws Shirley Marquardt, Jean Grad (Keith), Rita Johnson, brother-in-law Kenneth (Donna) Johnson as a well as many nieces and nephews.
