In our lives, many people come and go. There a very few though who leave a truly lasting mark and void when they go. Dick was one of those people.
I not only played with Dick in the band for many years but I also knew him and his family on a personal level. He was, without a doubt, one of the finest people I have known.
So many fond memories.
And now, not only after the months since his passing but I’m sure I will always feel as will so many others, there is a sadness and a deep sense of something missing.

Dick was my grade 6 teacher (1977) at St Francis. To me he was the coolest teacher ever! I had never experienced a teacher quite like him yet. He had long hair and those boots! In my mind he was way cooler than the other teachers.
He lead all the music for school related things. But it was watching him play in his band that inspired me to pick up a bass. Watching him perform; he made it look so easy and fun. I could see how all the musicians were enjoying their time on stage, I wanted to experience that myself. This simple grade school dance sent me on a life-long journey of wonderful music, great opportunities, chance meetings and unforgettable performances of my own. I strive to be a better musician and a better person thanks in part to his influence on me at such an impressionable age.
We would run into each other over the years and he always had a smile and words of encouragement for me every time we met. I will be eternally grateful for his positive influence and inspiration he gave me. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends. He will always have a special place in my heart.

My condolences to you and the family, Debi.
Some of my best memories are working (if you can call it work) with Dick at Miller, and later more closely at St. Jerome.
Every day started and ended on a positive note with Dick.
We'd walk out of St. Jerome at night, and Dick would turn to me and say, "that was a great day, wasn't it."
It wasn't unusual for Dick to grab me and his guitar, and he'd head down the hall to add a touch of impromptu music to a class.
And I'll never forget the Christmas Concert when Dick and I did stand up comedy waiting for our Grade 8 Blessed Virgin to show up.
May you find comfort in the many fond memories people have of Dick, and may God comfort you in your grief.

My condolences to Dick's family and many, many friends,
I met Dick when I was 16 at Miller High School. He was my Christian Ethics teacher. I have fond memories of Dick rushing in late to class with a big smile and armful of books and materials of which he promptly dump on his desk, turning his attention to us students- chatting, smiling, interacting and connecting- before beginning the task of teaching. I was one of those students at several wedding dances that was thrilled that Carnival was playing, approaching Dick with a "remember me?" which, of course, he always did. As a teacher and consultant in the Regina Catholic schools, I continued to enjoy many friendly and uplifting conversations with Dick that always left me happy long after they had finished. I also had the pleasure of working at CEC with his lovely daughter Nicole, as kind and friendly as her father with the same infectious smile.
My heart is filled with sadness that we have lost a loving, caring and bright soul. My heart aches for his family and close friends who will feel the sting of this loss in many ways. But my heart is also very thankful that so many lives (including mine) where blessed and enriched by knowing Dick- Mr. Dittrick.
Dick also taught my brothers Gary and Brian. My mother Lila sends her love and prayers.

My condolences go out to Dick's entire family and in particular, Debi, Nicole and Justin. I have so many wonderful memories that centre around Dick - and they are flooding out as these days now slip by. I had the privilege to work (or more accurately, "play") with Dick for 30 years in Carnival and remember his almost limitless energy, his creative sense of humour and his boundless spirit for entertaining. While we shared a seemingly countless number of great experiences over those playing years, at this time of loss I find myself recalling one of those experiences in particular. Whenever we played a dance, it was an extremely rare night when at least one former student of his did not enthusiastically come up to the stage and say "Hi Mr. Dittrick...remember me?", wide eyed and bearing a huge grin. To witness that happening night after night, it was easy to realize that Dick was that special kind of teacher who was able to reach his students on a whole different motivational or inspirational level and show them, in his own unique way, that he genuinely valued and cared for them and as importantly, helped them to better realize their own gifts and talents. This high calling that Dick aspired to and met as an educator is just one small part of his true legacy that lives on! May your spirit reside in soulful peace.

My thoughts and prayers to Richards family during this difficult time. It was a blessing to have had the privilege to work with Richard at St Michael's school in Weyburn. Richard always approached every situation with calmness, care and genuine love and concern. I'll always cherish the memory of his warm smile and his passion for people and music. He was an amazing role model in our Catholic Schools and will be greatly missed by many.

My deepest condolences from my wife and me for Richard's (Dick's) family. It was a shock to us at St. Michael's in Weyburn to hear the sad news. Richard always had a smile and cared so much for the staff and the students. God called Richard home earlier than expected, but Heaven gained a warm-hearted person. RIP. God bless.

To Debi and family our heartfelt condolences. I have known Richard since high school and I have had the pleasure to have played guitar with the bouncy bass player on many occasions. We always had fun making music together and just visiting. He was such a nice guy. His presence will be missed by all who knew him.

Dick, or "Mr D" was one of the good ones , he taught me ( or more so instilled in me ) a love of music, the time when he came into the school (O'Neill) I was just starting to play guitar and Mr D encouraged me to keep going, well 35 years later I am Mr D, thank you for everything , he will be missed immensely not just by myself , but by many others who's lives he has touched. Deepest heartfelt Condolences go out to his family and close friends
