Obituary of Dorothy Winogene Mickleborough
MICKLEBOROUGH, Dorothy
1921 – 2019
It is with sadness that we acknowledge the death of Dorothy Winogene Mickleborough on September 19, 2019 at the age of 98 years. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband of 71 years, Herbert Wallace Mickleborough, December 4, 2017; her three brothers, one sister, and her beloved daughter Betty Ann who died tragically on September 25, 1952 - all of which were very difficult for her to deal with. Dorothy is survived by her brother Bert Taylor of South Dakota. She also leaves behind to mourn her loss, two children, three grandchildren, and four great grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews on both sides of the border, and a niece in Spain. Dorothy was born in the Rouleau District south of Regina on a cold January 31st winters day in 1921, to Richard and Mable Taylor. She was the second oldest of six children and soon took up the role of care giver to help out around the farm and looking after her siblings with great devotion and love. A better sister you couldn’t find. Even though she grew up through the hard times of the Depression as a teenager and young woman, you would never hear her complain about her life – and that would set the stage for how she lived the rest of her life. Giving, compassionate, spirited, and wise. Always making the best out of whatever life passed her way. Mom worked very hard on the farm. She would spend countless hours sewing new clothes for her daughter, and making fudge at Christmas time to send away to family. She always had a huge garden and took great pride in her Gladiolas and Hollyhocks. One of my fond memories was coming home from the bus ride after school on Monday evenings, to the wonderful odours of fresh floor polish and pot roast on the stove. Friends and family were very important to her. Once a year she would throw a huge New Year’s party to which at least forty people would attend. Festivities would go on ‘till early morning hours and I would get to sleep to the sound of music and laughter. Good memories, Mom. Thanks. It is said that the greatest pain that a parent can go through is the loss of an offspring, while they continue to live. That is certainly true in the case of Mom and Dad losing Betty Ann. Every September 25th you could see the pain and sorrow in Mom’s eyes. Maybe now Mom, you will be able to be with her again, and Dad too. Dorothy was an avid curler and participated in many ladies provincial finals’ bonspiels. She was also very passionate about politics. Boy, if you wanted to see those beautiful blue eyes get really steely blue, just say something like “Bill Clinton was the best president ever”. Best to just agree with her opinion. Mom also had a good sense of humour. Even through her pain we would still share a good laugh about the political shape of our country. Again, just best to agree. Funeral Service will be held in Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina SK on Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at 10:00 a.m.
Thanks for sharing in our loss. Rest in peace, Mom. You earned it.
