Obituary of Dennis Roy Anderson
DENNIS ANDERSON
November 2, 1943 - October 11, 2019
Dennis passed away suddenly at the General Hospital in Regina, SK due to a massive stroke. He was born in the northern community of Sheridan, Manitoba. As a young lad, the family’s home along with many other homes, were loaded onto skids and pulled through the bush to the mining community of Lynn Lake, Manitoba.
Dennis took most of his public and high schooling at Lynn Lake and eventually became a miner himself along with his father and brother for Sherritt Gordon Mines. He also worked in the oilfields in Alberta for AMF Tuboscope.
Dennis attended STI in Moose Jaw, SK, the Universities of North Dakota, U. Of A., Edmonton, AB and the University of Saskatchewan in Regina, graduating with a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1973.
He started work as a Systems Analyst for Co-operators Insurance Services. Eventually the Co-operators were bought out by CGI. From 1973 – 1999, Dennis held various positions with these two companies retiring in September 1999 as Director of Centralized Outsourcing Services.
Dennis served on the Boards of PRIDE Regina, Sherwood Credit Union, Credit Union Central and SIAST along with being Board Chairman of Conexus Credit Union. He was a past member of Rotary and the Wascana Country Club. He is a member of Palm Desert Greens, California Men’s Club. He received Canada’s 125 medal presented by Lieutenant Governor Sylvia Fedoruk.
Dennis loved the game of golf (which he was pretty good at) and made many special friends on the golf course. These friends have played a big part of our social life.
He married Valerie McClelland on May 29, 1968 at McDougall United Church in Edmonton, Alberta.
Dennis is survived by his wife Valerie; daughters Kim (Marty) Cobb and their son Braydon and Delaine Anderson and her husband Trent Reiger and their children Drew and Bree, all of Regina; his brother Bob (Velma) Anderson of Nanaimo, BC; brother-in-law Bob McClelland; sister-in-law Sonia (Bob) Ferguson; nephews Dean and Scott McClelland; special niece Patty Grant; honorary family member DeLee Lozinski; along with several cousins and many friends.
His family, especially his grandchildren, and friends, meant everything to Dennis. One only needs to read the comments on Facebook to see what a very special, gentle and kind role model that Dennis was to so many. May we all leave this world with the deserving comments Dennis has earned!
He was predeceased by his parents Roy (1999) and Luella (Jewitt) Anderson (2009); his in-laws, Judge Robert “Harold” McClelland (1984) and Ethel (Wayling) McClelland (2005).
Dennis had signed his card for organ donations. Although this did not work out the way we had hoped, Dennis would have been the first organ donor in Regina after a Cardiac Death. On behalf of Dennis, please consider donating your organs! We would also like to thank the ambulance attendants, nurses and doctors at the Regina General Hospital for their kind support.
A Celebration of Life will take place at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 3510 Queen Street, Regina, SK on Friday October 18, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Craig Moeller officiating. Lunch will follow. Interment in Riverside Memorial Park. Flowers most gratefully declined. Friends so wishing may make donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 1738 Quebec Street, Saskatoon, SK, S7K 1V9 or the Allan Blair Cancer Centre, 4101 Dewdney Avenue, Regina, SK, S4T 7T1.
