Obituary of John Jaindl

It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Johann “John” Jaindl at Sunset Extendicare, on Wednesday, October 23, 2019, at the age of 92 years. John will be lovingly remembered by his children, Heidi (Garry), Ed (Linda) and Erica (Dennis); grandchildren Anita (Stephen), Barry (Angela), Graham, Jared, and Christopher (Emily); great-grandchildren, Alia (Bryan), Heather (Brett), Dylan, Ethan,  Gabriel, Jaelyn, Kaia, Marlowe and Landon; brother Rudi and John’s many nieces and nephews in Austria. He was predeceased by his wife Martha; parents Franz and Julianna; siblings, Alfred, Julie, Frieda, Theresa and Franzl; and great-granddaughter Savannah.

John was born in Poppendorf, Burgenland, Austria in 1927 and, in 1949 at age 21, he married Martha Schlener.  In April of 1954, John immigrated to Canada.  He spent sixteen long days on the ship Arosa Klum arriving in Bremen, Quebec on April 16th.  In November of 1954 his wife Martha and his first daughter Heidi joined him in Canada.  They made their first home near Ottawa where John worked on a dairy farm milking forty cows twice a day.  After only a year on the farm, the family moved to Regina where Ed and Erica were born.  The family has called Regina home ever since.  John began his career with the City of Regina in May of 1955.  He drove truck and operated heavy equipment for 33 years until his retirement in 1988.  One of Dad’s significant contributions to the community was as a founding member of the Austrian Club.  John loved to socialize and play cards and his warm sense of humour and smile could light up any room.  He loved to hunt and loved the allure of the farm; horse pulls, threshing bees, old farm machinery and a visit at harvest time.  Making sausage and wine were two of his favourite hobbies and he loved to have a camera in his hand to snap a photo.  John was a loving father, grandpa, great-grandpa and friend to all. He had a huge heart and a genuine love of life. Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Rosary Cathedral, 2104 Garnet Street, Regina, SK, on Tuesday, October 29, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Ken Koep presiding.  The family extends a special thanks to all who cared for Dad and showed him respect, kindness and compassion. Family and friends so wishing, may make memorial donations in John’s name, to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, #26-1738 Quebec Avenue, Saskatoon, SK, S7K 1V9 or the CNIB, 2160 Broad Street, Regina, SK, S4P 1Y5.   To leave an online message of condolence please visit www.speersfuneralchapel.com
