Obituary of Roy McLeod

Roy John McLeod was born in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba on September 23, 1928 to parents Clara (Potter) and William McLeod. The young family moved shortly after to Sovereign, SK before homesteading in Loon Lake SK. Following the war, Roy moved with his father to Vancouver, BC for steady work and the rest of the family soon joined them. Roy met Alvena Stewart in Vancouver and they married on December 10, 1948. They then moved to Spokane, WA, where Alvena’s relatives were living. Four of their five children, Doreen, Leon, Sharon, and Neil were born in Spokane. The family moved to the Seattle area where their last child, Orrin was born. Roy worked most of his life as a metal worker and machinist, belonging to the Mechanists Union. Roy and Alvena spent a number of years living in Clovis, NM, which they dearly loved. Roy enjoyed wood working, sports, and games. As they got older and needed more support, they returned to Saskatchewan and have been living in Moosomin where they have many friends and relatives. Roy and Alvena recently celebrated their 71st Wedding Anniversary.

Roy passed away on Thursday, January 9, 2020 in Moosomin, SK. He was predeceased by his parents, William and Clara; sister Evelyn McDougall of Moosomin, SK and brother Don McLeod of Gig Harbor, WA.

Roy is survived by his wife, Alvena; brothers, William and Calvin McLeod of Regina, SK; sister Peggy Kidd of Winnipeg, MB; daughters, Doreen Gibson and her husband Ernie of Moosomin, SK and Sharon Young of Seattle, WA; sons, Lee and wife Karla of Reno, NV, Neil of Seattle WA, and Orrin and wife Sylvia of Albuquerque, NM; grandchildren, Gordon Gibson of Calgary, AB, Leanne Cook of Moosomin, SK, Skye MacLeod of Reno, NV and Michelle Macleod-Almarez of Reno, NV, Brad, Cory, and Denise Young of Seattle, WA and Sonya Young-Harris of Seattle, WA, Jessica McLeod-Comer of Seattle, WA, Katie McLeod of Beijing, China, Elizabeth McLeod-Alsop of Albuquerque, NM, Rosy Hanby of Austin, TX, Ian Wilkinson of Beijing, China, Naomi McLeod of Las Cruces, NM and Kylie Wilkinson of Bellingham, WA, as well as numerous great-grandchildren.

The grandchildren will always remember him for his playfulness and smile.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to G. R. Carscadden Funeral Chapel.
