Obituary of Laurence Bennie Samoluk

LAURENCE BENNIE SAMOLUK Laurence Bennie Samoluk, late of Regina and formerly of Kamsack, SK, passed away at the Pasqua Hospital on February 26, 2009 at the age of 66 years, one week shy of his 67th birthday. Despite being born with Spina Bifida, Laurence did not let this prevent him from participating in many activities that included coaching and managing the Kamsack Cyclones senior baseball team, being Statistician for the Parkland Hockey League, scoring for the Kamsack Raiders and local high school basketball teams, as well as being a sports reporter for the Kamsack Times. Friends might remember Laurence as the manager of the band The Fendermen and with SKUL radio. Upon completing his education in Regina, Laurence continued working as a bookkeeper and office manager and became very active in the Jaycees, both in Regina and the Northern U.S.A. He was honored with many awards and recognitions and was awarded a Senatorship in Jaycees International, an honor that requires the approval of the local, national and international presidents. Predeceased by both his parents, William and Annie Samoluk, Laurence is survived by his brothers, Ken and Ron (Nancy); a niece, a nephew and one sister. Laurence became a resident of Regina Pioneer Village in September 2007. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. M. Bohn, the staff at Emergency and CCU of Pasqua Hospital, along with all the staff at 4W of Regina Pioneer Village. A Graveside Service with interment of ashes will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in Riverside Memorial Park (please meet inside the gate) with Rev. Lorne Crozon officiating. Friends so wishing may make donations, in memoriam, to Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Association of Canada, Suite 977 " 167 AV, Lombard Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3B 0V3 or to a charity of choice.
