Obituary of Martin Joseph Windl

Martin, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 23, 2020 at the age of 86 years. Martin is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marta; children, Steve (Darlene), Victor (Bonnie), Mona, Ernest (Alicia) and Tony (Carla); grandchildren, Jennifer (Andrew), Elliot (Katy), Shelley (Shane), Michaela, Drew, Chelsea and Angela; great-grandchildren Elijah, Ethan, Blake and Luke.

Born 1933 in Rosenberg, Czechoslovakia, Martin moved to Linz, Austria as a young child. Later, upon completing school, he started his electrical training.  July 31, 1953 Martin immigrated to Canada, sponsored by his uncle Tony Windl. Martin completed his electrical training and received his Journeyman’s Status in the Electrical Trade on June 25, 1958, just months before his marriage to his future wife Marta Hodovan.  They were married November 22, 1958.

Martin worked for Trans-Canada-Pipelines for over 28 years. Even after his retirement, he was still called back to work as a pipeline inspector during the summer construction months. He did this for several years. He also enjoyed his retirement for over 28 years.

Martin was a founding member of the Austrian Edelweiss Club and served as President and other various executive positions for several years. His passion for chess and cards would find him at the Austrian Club every spare chance he had.

Martin was very active at Little Flower Parish in the men’s club assisting with many functions and suppers.

         A Private Funeral Mass to celebrate Martin’s life will be held on Thursday, September 3, 2020 at 11:00 a.m.  In lieu of flowers, his family asks that you say a prayer, love one another and stay safe.
