Brian Robert Atkinson
January 8, 1949 – March 31, 2020
Brian passed away peacefully with his family by his side after a short but courageous battle with cancer. He will be missed by his wife Jan; his two children Jennifer (Tom Gotsoulias) and David; his mother Lenora McDonald; sister Pat and brother-in-law Reg O’Brien; sister-in-law Doreen; nieces Laura, Sheri (Andy), Pam (Brodi) and their families; as well as many good friends in both Canada and Mexico. Brian was predeceased by his father Ross and brother Gerry.
Brian received his designation as a Chartered Accountant in 1978. He worked for the Provincial Auditor of Saskatchewan for 36 years and retired in 2011 as the Acting Provincial Auditor. Brian was involved with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Saskatchewan and was proud to serve on various professional committees and enjoyed participating in community groups, especially Tae Kwon-Do. He was dedicated to his profession and was awarded the Fellow Chartered Accountant designation from the Institute in 2002.
Brian and Jan enjoyed nine wonderful winters in Mexico. He loved every minute of their Mexican life. Brian loved walking the beach, relaxing at the pool, and dinners out with friends. He especially loved exploring Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo on his scooter. Brian was always up for a scooter ride; and for anyone who would join him - it always ended up being an adventure.
Brian lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures. He enjoyed golfing, Tae Kwon-Do, working out, fishing trips and family camping trips. Brian was a brilliant person who always had a random fact to share. He loved gadgets and was always tinkering and building things in his shed. Brian enjoyed barbeques, red wine, cigars and spending time with family and friends in his backyard. He was grateful for and enjoyed all the time he spent with family and his close friends.
The family would like to thank the nurses of the Palliative Care Unit (3A) for the respect and compassionate care they showed to Brian and our family. A private celebration of Brian’s life will held at a later date.
