Obituary of Michael Volk

Volk, Michael (Mike) It is with fond memories and heavy hearts that the family of Mike Volk announces his peaceful passing, with family at his side, on 10 September 2009 after a 9 year struggle with Alzheimers Disease. Mike was born near Zelma, SK on 18 December 1921 to Joseph and Frances (Garman) Volk, the 8th of 12 children. Mike married Margaret Vogelgesang of Allan in 1945 and farmed in the Allan district until 1951 when they moved to Regina. Mike retired from Motorways in 1982. He was a very social and generous person, giving much of his time and energy to many family and volunteer activities. He was an active member of Little Flower Parish since 1951, a member of the Mens Club and a life member of the Knights of Columbus. Mike was predeceased by his loving wife Margaret (1990), his parents, 5 brothers and 1 sister and son-in-law Lee Lathrope. Mike is lovingly remembered by his children, Elizabeth Lathrope Engh (Marty), Raymond (Natalie), Frances Jacks (Robert), Edwin (Delores), Elaine Reinhardt (Norm), and Lorraine Huber (Blaine), 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Mike is also survived by sisters Regina Jacek, Magdalena Schaan, Brigetta Sebastian, and Anne Frankie, sisters-in-law Barbara, Clara and Magdalena, brothers-in-law Leo, John and Adolph Vogelgesang. He will also be missed by a large extended family and many friends. Visitation will be held Monday, 14 September from 7:00 " 9:00 p.m. at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Ave. Regina. The celebration of Dads life will be held at Little Flower R.C. Church, 420 College Ave. Regina on Tuesday, 15 September 2009 at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of floral tributes, donations in memory of Mike may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan Inc., #301 " 2550 12th Ave., Regina, SK S4T 7T1. The family would like to thank the many caregivers at Parkside Extendicare for their loving care of Dad over the past four years, and especially their compassion to Dad and us during his final hours.
