Obituary of Olive Lillian Burrows

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Olive who passed away peacefully at the Cupar Nursing Home on Wednesday, April 22, 2020 at the age of 97 years. She was predeceased by her husband Melvin Burrows; parents William and Elizabeth Bickley; sisters Joan Dolman and Vi Royan; and son-in-law David MacDougall. Olive is survived by her children Brenda MacDougall and Bill Burrows; granddaughter Kelly MacDougall-Smyj (Robert); sisters Shirley Cottons and Betty Wagner; as well as many nieces and nephews. Olive was born on April 17, 1923 in Regina, Saskatchewan. She attended Wascana grade school and graduated from Lumsden High School. In 1942 she enlisted in the Canadian Air Force and was stationed in Trenton and Ottawa, Ontario until 1945. After being discharged from the Air Force she began a career at Sasktel in Regina. In 1950, she married Melvin Burrows on July 15 in Calgary, Alberta. They then resided on the Burrows Farm and welcomed two children. As a member of the community of Lumsden, she was a devoted member of the Lumsden United Church where she sang in the choir, was a leader in CGIT and volunteered at the Lumsden and District Heritage Home. In addition, she was a passionate member of the Lumsden Legion where she enjoyed her service to the community and the comradery of the other members. OIive will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her family and friends. A memorial service will be held in Lumsden at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Olive may be made to the Lumsden Legion Poppy Fund, P.O. Box 121, Lumsden, SK S0G 3C0, who benevolently supports Canadian Veterans and their families.
