With deep sadness the family of André Bélanger announces the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandpa, and brother. After a long and courageous battle with cancer, André passed into the arms of God on Sunday, May 3, 2020 with unending love and respect from his family and all who are blessed to have known him.

Predeceased by his parents Ulric and Berthe and sister Annette. André is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Karen. He is lovingly remembered by his seven beautiful children, Richard (Paula), Christopher, Andrea, Annette (Brendan), Jacqueline (Scott), Paul (Georgia) and Michelle; fourteen grandchildren, Meghan, Matthew, Grace, Renee, Madeline, Abigail, Gage, Jacob, Harriet, Genevieve, Mabel, Luke, Theodore and Nova. He is also survived by his three sisters, Diane, Cecile and Jynx, who loved their brother dearly.

André was born on January 7, 1943 in St. Boniface, Manitoba and was raised in Stony Mountain.  He received his Chartered Accountant designation in 1968 and lived with Karen and their children in Kingston, Ottawa, Winnipeg and Regina. Throughout his entire life André had a deep and abiding love for God and the Mother Mary, and a devotion to the Catholic Church. Family was the centrepiece of André’s life; his greatest joy was spending time with his children and grandchildren.  His life was guided by integrity, duty to others, love, kindness, forgiveness and charity. There simply was no one like him.

Although André loved all his children and grandchildren equally, he had a very special relationship with his oldest grandson, Matthew. Commonly referred to as “grandpa’s right-hand man,” Matthew spent a lot of time with André, doing all he could to support and love him.  As a fellow cancer survivor Matthew was an inspiration to his grandpa and the two shared a bond of love and respect.

The family would like to thank the Palliative Care Team at the Pasqua Hospital, the home care workers and staff of 3A for all the care they provided to André.  We are forever grateful for the kindness you showed him and the dignity you brought to him in the last few weeks of his life.

Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, a private graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 7, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. To view the livestream of the service, please click on the link to Speers TV at the top of André’s Tribute Page. A public funeral will be announced at a later date.  For those so wishing, memorial donations in memory of André may be directed to a charity of your choice.
