Obituary of Karl Wilhelm Gauer

Karl was born in Germany, he was the second oldest in a family of eight siblings. Upon finishing high school, he chose to farm with his father, until he was enlisted in World War II. After the war, he met our mother, Irma Schepmann and they were married on May 16, 1947. Karl and Irma had four children, Karin, Heike, Shirley and Detlev. Shortly after, the family left for Canada and arrived in Regina, SK in January of 1954. After a few years of window-washing, Karl and Irma bought a small store called Elliott Grocery. They owned the business for four years, and after selling it, they bought Karls Grocery, which they owned and operated until it was sold in 1967. Karl bought a farm in 1968 and farmed until he retired. Farming was, and will always be Dads first love. Irma passed away on December 5, 1983, and Karl had a special companion for a number of years. During a trip to Germany, he reconnected with Christa, who was a childhood friend. She came to Canada in 1997. Karl and Christa were married on September 27, 1997. In 2004, Christa returned to her family in Germany due to illness. Karl was predeceased by his first wife Irma, his parents, brother Erich, and sister Hana in Germany. He leaves to mourn, Christa in Germany; daughter Karin (Larry) Magee, grandchildren Colin (Tracey), and great-grandchildren Brandie, Griffin and Felicia; and Karla (Devin) and great-grandchildren Blake and Lisa; daughter Heike Gauer, grandchildren Kai and Katya (Cory) and great-grandchildren Aidan and Haley; daughter Shirley (Don) Cary-Martin, grandchildren Chad and Tara (Scott) and great-grandchildren Carson and Nolan, Jason (Clara), and great-grandchildren Simon and Curran; and son Detlev (Dena) Gauer, grandchildren James (Julia), Cody (Jennifer) and and Louis. Karl also leaves four sisters and one brother Erika (Erwin), Gretel, Hans (Lisa) and Hilde all of Germany, Edith (Martin) of Kitchener, ON, and brother-in-law Ullie, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Karls Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 30, 2010 in Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, 205 Broad Street, Lumsden, SK.
