Dear Deb, Will, and Erin & family ~ My deep condolences on your loss of Bruce. He was my supervisor at the Alvin Buckwold Child Development Centre (he always insisted on the full name, to honour Dr. Buckwold!) in 1997, when Erin and Will were in the KCC’s preschool. We subsequently became colleagues and friends, which I cherish to this day. Bruce was unfailingly kind and compassionate, to all that he encountered. He came into my life at a time when I badly needed “boosting up”, and he was truly excellent at that! I remember lonnnggg supervision sessions (we always overran our scheduled time; he was very generous with his). He made me laugh, and scratch my head at times with his hockey and Star Trek references! I learned so very much from him - from lessons that I have taken into my own supervision of Psychology trainees, to the way I wrote assessment reports (so that parents could understand them!); to the way I broke sad and difficult news to families.
Even after I tore myself away from Saskatoon to return to my native Vancouver, I was able to keep in touch with Bruce. I so appreciated the efforts he made to come to gatherings of former ABCDP staff at Dr. Jo Nanson’s home. I will treasure my memories of Bruce, and do my very best to carry forward his spirit.
When you are able to have a public ceremony to honour his life, I would like very much to attend.
Sincerely, Cindy Hanna, Ph.D.

Bruce has been a dear friend since we started playing soccer together in 1983. He must have been the only person on earth who could do play-by-play WHILE running up and down the field! Habs players only, of course. Then he got me involved in hockey which was a ton of fun for many years. We stayed in touch when I lived overseas - when he wrote to tell me that Deb and he were expecting twins, I remember the words: "so, colour me slightly terrified". He was so excited, and that excitement about spending time with his children never changed.
We hadn't seen much of each other since he moved to Regina but it was always a joy when we did catch up. Bruce's kindness and humour will stay with me, and with everyone he touched, forever. He made a difference in this world, and we are all bereft. My very deepest sympathies to Deb, Erin, and Will.

Last month I was looking for emails for Bruce and Deb to share some news. And now this. Our family is saddened by this huge loss and our sympathies to Deb and the family. Deb was once our wonderful family doctor; and I (Karin) knew Bruce way back in my days with SACL. He was always such a positive, funny and enthusiastic cheerleader of my writing on disability issues over the years. He was absolutely invaluable as our champion when we had to do the arduous paperwork to apply for Jim's Canadian citizenship. Bruce provided a psychological assessment and he was such a relief, such a breath of fresh air as he treated Jim with good humour, respect and compassion. We have shared the sad news with Jim who says, "Goodbye Dr. Bruce" and to Deb and the family, Jim offers his trademark "Feel butter soon."

It is so difficult to accept that this happened! I had the pleasure of collaborating with Bruce on a number of projects at Regina Public Schools, and thought of him as a friend. He made many wonderful connections with our students, staff, and programs. Indeed, Bruce made an indelible mark on our school division, and every life he touched. Bruce was also an outstanding role model and mentor to fellow psychologists. He will be greatly missed. My condolences to the family, and thank-you for allowing Bruce to spend so much of his valuable time with us.

I worked with Bruce at Child and Youth when he first moved to Regina. What a wonderful man. A talented psychologist,a wonderful story teller who had a gifted approach in working with kids. I think the whole staff loved him immediately and over the years he became a trusted mentor and colleague. He was quirky too in such a fun way. He had an office with a window, ordered some markers and that window became the repository of pictures and graffiti created by the youth he was seeing. He became a leader, alongside his Indigenous colleagues and Elders, in integrating indigenous cultural practices into his work. That last sentence sounds so bureaucratic.....Bruce would have had a more folksy way of expressing that. I know he will be greatly missed by his colleagues and friends. My deepest sympathy to Deb and his children. It was really such an honour to have known him.

I was shocked and saddened to read of Bruce's death. I worked in the U of S Psychology Department when Bruce (and co-conspirator, Jim) were students. Bruce frequently brought his bright smile and quirky sense of humour into the office even in the days of the horrendous thesis supervisor Karen previously mentioned. No mater the situation Bruce was polite and respectful. His leadership abilities shone through. I had no doubt at the time that Bruce was one-of-a-kind in the cohort of exceptional students. Indeed that thought has been born out. He was an unforgettable first-class student and man who has enriched many communities in his too short life. My sympathy to his family.

Deb and Family,
Bruce came into our lives 26 years ago when he diagnosed Codi with Autism at K.C.C. He immediately won my heart over when he said Mitch you are not crazy(in later years he would realize I am totally crazy)there is something going on in Codi's little mind we just need to dig a bit deeper. Those words I will never forget as I thought the heavens' opened and the angels were sent! Through the K.C.C years and later at Holy Cross years Bruce became my families rock. In those years I was also fortunate to work with his fabulous wife Deb in Pathology. It was probably a year before the connection was brought to light that this kind, gentle and hilarious woman was none other than his wife. I remember stressful times of her as a student when we would share and aero chocolate bar stuffing it into our faces and saying" just let it melt" (which is hard to do with your mouth full) we would look at each other, giggle and carry on with our day. As you are well aware Bruce was an amazing man and human being. He made such a difference in many, many lives. I will be thinking of you and family and will eat an aero bar in his memory!!
Thoughts are with you.

In addition to his love of family and professional and community service as a psychologist, another side of Bruce was his place within the Huskie hockey family. This is the side of Bruce I saw for decades at University of Saskatchewan. For 35 years Huskie men's hockey home game experiences were enriched by the unwavering commitment, professionalism in preparation and delivery, and intelligent wit of the "Voice of the Huskies," Bruce Gordon. Among all those who have contributed to Huskie Athletics over the years, Bruce was unmatched in sharing his time and talents for so long, even after his employment and home moved to Regina. The "Voice of the Huskies" will be missed, but his legacy among coaches, players, officials, game-day workers and volunteers, and especially the fans will endure.
Sincere condolences to Deb, Will, and Erin. It has been a pleasure and an honour to have shared a small part of Bruce's exceptional life.

As a longtime Huskie hockey supporter, I will greatly miss Bruce. He had a skill that many admire — when he spoke, people listened! His sense of humour that he injected into his announcing is simply classic and will not be heard again.
II taught at Brunskill School in Saskatoon for several years. I would often encounter Bruce as he walked across the playgrounds on his way to the Kinsment Children Centre when I was on supervision. We would wave at each other or exchange a few words. On one occasion, not being a Canadiens fan, I took the opportunity to point out the fact that the Habs hadn’t made the playoffs. He replied that the last time the Habs didn’t make the playoffs, God brought them Ken Dryden. No come back from me!

I was completely stunned and devastated when I heard this news over the weekend. Bruce was an amazing human being and I think everyone’s lives are better for having known him. I feel so lucky to have worked with him at the Autism Centre and to have bonded with him over being from Saskatoon. I don’t think I ever saw Bruce without a smile on his face and he always had a joke or a story to tell. He had an enthusiasm for life that is very hard to come by these days. I was so fortunate to work with Bruce in my classroom. He was the counsellor of many of my students and visited us often just to check-in and see how things were going. I loved troubleshooting with Bruce about how to "speak kid" on their terms. He was instrumental in the building of many relationships with students and families. Bruce had a special way of connecting with everyone he met. His words were gold to the kids he served. He was one of a kind and his contributions to the mental health field were indescribable. He could get to the heart of our deaf kids with amazing accuracy. He was an amazing man and an extraordinary human being. Bruce and I shared an office on Cumberland across the street from the University of Saskatchewan for a short time when we were Psychology students. He was a grad student and I a lowly undergrad. But we worked for a notorious professor who was supervising our respective theses. I often think of him, especially when I get the chance to watch David Letterman as he was an early fan and ran through the monologue from the night before each day over tea. He made me look forward to 'work' after a day of classes. I never knew him well, although he was my senior in high school, but I was always struck by his uniqueness, kindness, sense of humour and of course his red hair. I was so incredibly sorry to hear of the loss of Bruce. My heart breaks for Deb, Will and Erin on losing such an amazing, special man. Working with him at hockey games was always a joy, and he started me down my sports announcing path, which has led to some very cool opportunities.
I think Bruce would have a smile at reading Picard’s words; while directed at a crew member in an episode he and I discussed more than once, it very much describes Bruce, and the emotion Jean Luc has saying it is echoed by me and all those who had the true privilege of knowing him.
“He was the finest example of a -man and father- , and a gentleman of remarkable courage and strength of character. His. loss will be deeply felt by all who knew him. Picard out.”
