PELLETIER, Ron Joseph
Ron, late of Regina, SK passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 30, 2020 at the age of 73 years. He was predeceased by his wife Mavis; parents James and Delia; brother Paul; and sister Rosie. Ron is survived by his son Mark; daughters Regan and Kelsey; grandchildren Lorna and Courtney; brothers Davis (Ellie), Doug, Roger (Val) and Joe (Gayle); sisters Lynda, Joan, Elaine, Evelyn (Jim) and Deborah; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Ron grew up in Lebret, the fourth oldest of twelve children to Delia and James Pelletier.
His family moved to Regina in 1963 where he attended high school and graduated from Balfour high school.
He married Mavis Honeysett in 1968 and raised a family of three, Mark, Regan, and Kelsey. He was a devoted father who put his children’s needs before his own. Even when they got older and moved out, he continued to provide for them whenever they needed help.
Ron worked for the government of Saskatchewan in Energy and Mines for 30 years. While he was working he took night classes towards the study of Law which would result in a second career later when he retired from government in 2000.
Ron was a talented guitar player and music was a huge part of his life throughout the years. He formed his own band which included his own son Mark and his daughter Regan. He named his band Leather and Lace.
His music is what motivated him to become involved with the Exhibition Association. He was elected Chairman of the Buffalo Days committee for about 10 years. He was M.C. for the Scarth St. Mall entertainment during Exhibition week every year. He took part in recruiting bands for the activities during Buffalo Days and made a lot of celebrity friends.
In the early nineties his hobbies included karate training with his son Mark which resulted in earning a black belt. Later, they both became interested in Ford Mustangs and car shows. He was an avid boxing fan. He would rent the boxing matches on pay-per-view and he owned several movies and books on boxing.
Ron travelled to Europe with his wife Mavis where he got to run with the bulls and ride an elephant. Later on, he made several trips to England on his own.
Ron was the family organizer for Christmas parties and summer gatherings when family came from out of town every year. Our family celebrations for birthdays and Christmas included his dad playing the violin while he chorded for him up until his dad’s passing in 2002. Then it was Ron on guitar with Doug and Roger accompanying him. Ron’s sisters got to sing along on occasion and sometimes they would even get a mike to use.
For the past 20 years he held Christmas parties with neighborhood friends and his siblings at his house. Everyone looked forward to his parties.
After he retired from government Ron finished training and became a judge. He would work in criminal law and traffic safety court until he retired in 2017.
He enjoyed his last few years of retirement living with his daughter Kelsey in his condo. In his two careers he made numerous friends and all who met him will remember him for his charming, magnetic and dignified personality.
As a brother, Ron was the glue that held our family together. His musical gift was essential to our family gatherings. He will be missed and his memories will be forever in our hearts.
As a father, he was our North Star. The first place we looked to when we got lost and needed the soothing reassurance he provided by just being there. It will be hard to move forward without that tangible comfort but he isn’t truly gone. The light he created while he was here is stronger than his life alone. He will continue to change and brighten lives through us, through the lessons we’ve been fortunate enough to have learned through observing this incredible man we got to call our dad.
