Dr. Coucill was our family doctor since shortly after he began practicing as a family physician in Regina. He always took the time to deal thoroughly with your issues and was exceptionally compassionate. In addition to seeing my wife through 2 pregnancies, he went so far as to make a house call on a weekend to deal with a family emergency from our extended family. The compassion he exhibited at all times, but especially during this emergency, was second to none. Our deepest condolences on your family's loss and thank you for all of the support you as a family provided to him that allowed him to be the exemplary physician he was.

My condolences to Erna and Family.
Dr. Coucill (Jim) was a treasure…a very kind, caring, gentle and respectful person. He always made people feel welcome and was keenly interested in their lives and what mattered to them. He had a way of paying attention and being fully present with each person who was in his company.
I have known Jim since March 2003 when we both started at the Ministry of Health. He had a very large fan club at the Ministry. He was brilliant in his role as a medical consultant and his door was always open. Since leaving the Ministry, we kept in touch every few months and our conversations revolved around travel, family, community service and life at Medical Services Branch. He was very proud of his family. Every May with the running of the Kentucky Derby, I am reminded of Jim and the story about his special family trip to the Derby years ago—he told the story with such fondness…a precious experience for him. Other stories include Jim as a young man, with his friends camping/ touring through France and Spain in an old converted ambulance, as well as how, as a young boy he would go fishing at Blackpool, near Worsley. These stories warmed my heart and tells of a young adventurous lad…who later grew into a dedicated husband, father, friend, family physician, community volunteer, writer and choir singer…and role model in many ways. Jim touched so many lives and will live on in our hearts.

I worked at the Ministry of Health around the same time as Jim did. I did not work in the same branch as Jim, but many mornings we arrived at work at the same time. He always stopped and chatted with me - totally made my day, always a great smile and a kind word. His family have been blessed to have such a wonderful kind man in their lives. Thoughts and prayers are with you at this sad time.

Erna - I knew Jim as a fellow mass-goer at Christ the King and sometimes Holy Rosary, and of course sitting behind me and my brother, sometimes with you by his side, at the Rider games. Always friendly; always with something nice to say. His contributions to family, health and community make him, in my estimation, a man whose time on earth was well spent and who now will be forever rewarded. He will be missed. May God give you and your family as much comfort as you need.

Jim was a fine gentleman, quick to laugh, always smiling. He was such a pleasure to sing with in the Christ the King choir - I will remember him every time we sing, practice or have a choir brunch. I guess the heavenly choir needed another voice, and just got a little bit better. Rest in peace my friend.

Dr.Coucill was a wonderful man. My husband's mother and aunt loved and adored him.
They were heartbroken when he retired from family practice. And we all missed his gentle and caring nature. Something not easily found these days.
May he rest in peace.
