Obituary of Elaine Marie Dreher

It is with a heavy heart that the family announces the sudden passing of Elaine Marie Dreher (nee Davies) due to an aortic aneurism in Mesa Arizona on January 31, 2020.  She was predeceased by her father and mother, one sister and one brother.  Elaine is survived by her husband Gabe Dreher; son Brandon and his partner Miranda and her children Liam, Ashton and Khloe; step-family, Reina (Jack Wylie), grandson Kyle (Bernadette), great-grandson Conway, grandson Brett Wylie (Linsey), and great-granddaughter Sadie; Lorene (Dennis Attewell) and grandson Dylan (Allison); brother Brian (Susan) and their children, Richard (Carrie), great-nephews Nolan and Austin; daughter Lee Anna (Jason Lenius), great-nieces Jaden and Kirsten and nephew Mark (Laken).

Elaine Davies was born on January 19, 1947 at Carragana, Saskatchewan. She lived on the family farm until 1957 when the family headed to Vancouver to begin a new life. Tragically, her father died in a construction accident and Elaine and her siblings, returned to Saskatchewan to live with their maternal aunt’s family on their farm near Porcupine Plain. After six years in Porcupine Plain, Elaine and her two brothers moved to Semans, Saskatchewan to live with family members. Eventually, Elaine accompanied the Gettis family when they moved to Regina.

In 1963, while attending Thom Collegiate, Elaine met her lifelong and cherished friend Pat Fulton. It did not take too long before the Fulton family took Elaine into their home and hearts and she became the Fulton’s second daughter and sister to Pat.

In 1966, Elaine enrolled in a secretarial course at O’Neil Catholic High School which led to a job at the University of Regina.  In August 1968, Elaine married Donn Briske. In the spring of 1976, Elaine accepted a position with the Saskatchewan Federation of Labour where she worked until her retirement in 2008. In 1978, Donn and Elaine welcomed Brandon into their lives. Elaine was overjoyed to be Brandon’s mother and never tired of that role. In 1986, Donn and Elaine parted and the bond between Brandon and Elaine was only strengthened as they moved together in life.  In 2010, Elaine met and began dating Gabe Dreher and they were eventually married on October 1, 2011 in Manitou Beach, SK.  Elaine and Gabe’s marriage was characterized by socializing, dancing, travelling, and spending winters in Mesa Arizona. Above all, Gabe and Elaine truly enjoyed each other’s company and sharing their life together.

Elaine will always be remembered for her caring nature, generosity, and abundant energy. She was involved in several business ventures including the former Whistle Stop in Regina’s Scarth Street Mall and Brown’s Motor Inn in Manitou Beach. She helped sponsor a refugee family who made Regina Home and she opened up her home to help women transition to live independently. Elaine will always be remembered by her many family and friends as the angel that walked amongst us.
