QUON, Sammy F.
February 10, 1934 – June 9, 2020
With heavy hearts the family announces the passing of a special father, grandfather and great-grandfather Sammy Quon, late of Regina at the age of 86 years. He is survived by his wife Jean; daughters Merlane, Marilyn, Linda, Annette (Russell), Bonnie, Julie (Trevor), Lillian and Betty; grandchildren Rebecca (Kelly), Kathleen, Elric, Gabriel, Matthew, Alexander, Sophia; great-grandchild Alexis; brother Jack; sister-in-law Sylvia; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; brother David; and sister-in-law Cherry. Sam was born in China and immigrated to Canada in 1950 to settle in the Melfort, SK area with relatives. He later moved to Medicine Hat for job prospects and that is where he met the love of his life, Jean. They were married on June 4, 1959 in Medicine Hat. After moving to Regina he opened Eastview Confectionary for 21 years and also had SAM’S TV which he operated until 15 years ago. Sam’s passion and enjoyment was tinkering with all electronics, fix everything, and waste nothing. If he didn’t know how to fix it he would research and read to attempt to fix it. He loved a challenge and would attempt to “fix” anything. Sam loved to read and learn new things. He always was reading and researching anything he wasn’t familiar with. Sam enjoyed watching sports and the Sask Roughriders. He would always watch the games and especially liked to watch the Grey Cup. Sam loved to watch hockey whether it be NHL, Olympic or Canada youth hockey. He especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren and great-grandchild grow. Sam endured much hardship when immigrating to Canada and worked hard to save and help others come to Canada. He thrived on helping others and always trusted everyone. Sam was an independent soul and would refuse help, but would be the first to offer assistance. He worked hard to provide for his family and encouraged education for all of his children. Sam instilled his values on his children to help others and work hard.
