Obituary of Elisabeth Letscher

It is with deep sadness the family announces the passing of Elisabeth Letscher (nee Thres) on June 4, 2010. Elisabeth was born in Hodoni, Romania on July 31, 1919. She married the love of her life, Michael, on August 17, 1935. They were blessed with one daughter, Helga. In mid 1943, the family was separated when Michael had to go to war. In 1945, soldiers invaded Hodoni and Elisabeth was taken, against her will, to Russia. For 5 years she was forced to do hard manual labour in the coalmines and building railroads. While many did not make it through, Elisabeth endured with prayer and was reunited with her then 6-year-old daughter. With God answering, after their long 16-year forced separation, Elisabeth, Michael and Helga were reunited as a family in Regina, Saskatchewan on May 27, 1959. This special moment was recently captured in the Immigrant Recognition sculptures and art in the Regina City Hall courtyard. Elisabeth is predeceased by her husband, Michael (June 9, 2000), her parents, sister, brothers and extended family members. Elisabeth leaves to mourn her loving daughter Helga Varsanyi, grandchildren Lisa (Ken) Rybchuk and Linda Varsanyi and five great grandchildren: Stephanie, Katelyn, Michael, Jacob and Alexander. They were UrOmas sunshine. Family and friends in Austria, Brazil, Germany, Romania and the United States will also remember her. Elisabeth shared much with us and taught us the importance of family and Faith. May God bless and keep her always. We thank everyone who took part in Elisabeths care while she resided in Pioneer Village. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Marys R.C. Church, 2026 Winnipeg Street with Father Alejandro Cabonelas officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan Inc. 301 2550 12th Avenue, Regina, SK S4P 3X1 or Regina Hospital Foundation Re: Pioneer Village?, 430 Pioneer Dr, Regina, SK S4T 6L8 would be appreciated.
