He was predeceased by parents Robert William Counsell and Constance Darlene Gairns. Les is survived by sister Laura Garaycochea (Baldo); brothers Larry Counsell (Kathy), Curtis Counsell (Yvonne) and Lee Counsell (Debbie); nephews Damien Garaycochea (Stephanie), Dallas Allison, and Jeremy Counsell; nieces Alyssa Counsell-Tian (Ye), Deanna Counsell, Kara Counsell (Jordan Podovilnikoff), Meagan Longdale (Andrew) and Tara Counsell (Josh Harrison); as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins
Les Counsell graduated at Thom Collegiate and was employed for most of his career with the Leader-Post. He was an avid outdoor enthusiast enjoying camping, fishing, hiking, canoeing and socializing around a fire with friends and family. Les also enjoyed his alone time chilling having a drink listening to all variations of music especially ones that touched him in one fashion or another. During his time growing up he was very fortunate to have parents that provided many family excursions for holidays to visit family and friends around the continent usually camping along the way, with many of those trips with close family friends the Jennings and Bresciani clans. As well figuring out how to be mischievous with cousins Samantha, Brent and Mark Counsell. The memories of these excursions as he grew into a man drew Les into making memorable events with all those he encountered. Children were always the utmost pleasure and fore front of his life and Les would visit all nephews and nieces planning or attending events with them to create the same lasting memories he had growing up. If he felt that anything was needed by a child he would always look for way to provide it to bring a smile to their face.
Family will have personalized visitation at a later date which shall be posted on social media and Speers Funeral Chapel website. Family and friends so wishing may make donations in memoriam to Children’s Haven, 3 Elmwood Avenue, Prince Albert, SK S6V 2A1.
