Obituary of Mary Cecilia Murphy

MARY CECILIA MURPHY (nee HEALY) Born May 19, 1922 in Smith Falls, Ontario, Mary passed away peacefully on March 1, 2013 in Regina. Predeceased by her husband, Bernard; her parents, James Edmund and Isabel Healy; her brother, Father Joseph Healy; and her sister, Patricia Ryan. Survived by her children, Tim (Robin Poitras), Greg (Lorrie) and Colleen (Henri Chabanole); grandchildren, Denby, Shea, Taylor, Geneva, Luc, Chloe; and siblings, Sister Rose, Foch (Beverly) and John (Janet) Healy. In her 20's and 30's Mary would have described herself as a Catholic, a Liberal, and an Easterner with Irish roots who worked in Ottawa. Then she met Benny, a non-conformist (and a bit of a prankster) from the prairies, who in short order had her convinced they should marry and begin a life together out west. They married in Ottawa and moved to Milestone, Benny's hometown. It took her some time to convince the locals she wasn't part of some elaborate prank. But once that hurdle was overcome, she quickly transformed into Mary, still a Catholic, still a Liberal but now a WESTERNER with Irish roots who embraced her new role of wife and mother. Mary embodied and lived by the Christian virtue of Love. She was kind. Faithful. Loyal. Charitable. Generous. Gentle. Warm. Never envious, boastful, arrogant or rude. Always concerned for and wishing good fortune for others. She appreciated and looked for the beautiful in life. Some of her loves: friendship, bridge, flowers, gardening, entertaining, music with a beat, dancing, following politics and the colour red. But most of all she loved and cherished her family. Mary will be remembered by her friends and loved ones as someone who could always see the humour in things and could always put people at ease. Funeral Service will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. with interment to follow in Riverside Memorial Park. Special thanks to Dr. Lyster and all of the incredible staff on Unit 3D at the Pasqua Hospital. Those so wishing may make donations in memory of Mary to a charity of choice. That was Mary. Mary was red. Mary was love.
