During the first ten years of my life, my mom and I spent a lot of time visiting Aunty Madeline, Uncle Jim, and my cousins Kelly, Trevor, Tracy, and Corey and I remembered those times fondly. Aunty Madeline always made us feel welcome even when we stayed for several weeks. We always had so much fun there playing games outside until dark, sharing meals (our favorite Kraft Dinner, Mackintosh Toffee, and chocolate bars), going to church, listening to music and singing, and dancing. “Sugar Sugar” by the Archies comes to mind. Aunty Madeline was always warm and fun-loving and had a beautiful, radiant smile and sweet laugh. She took time to write letters and update me on her family whom she loved dearly. I am sad that she is gone but glad that she is out of pain. I know Ray and her kids will miss her so. I believe she is in heaven now.
With love,
Lisa

I met Madeline when my brother brought her home to Mom’s house. I was 14 years old and have loved her dearly ever since. My sister Donna and I would go in the summer to stay with them and they always accepted us with open arms. They lived in a duplex beside her beautiful sister, Pauline, and her husband Jack. Pauline shared her food and taught us how to make the best cabbage rolls that I still dream of. In the summer, my daughter Lisa and I would travel to Canada and stay with Madeline and the kids. When Jim came home from the potash plant up north, the three of us went dancing, leaving the kids with Gladys. He always called us the “Gold Dust Twins.” We shared wonderful summers at Turtle Park during our visits. Even when Madeline and Jim went separate ways, and she married Ray, she continued to tell us she loved us and received us, and they hosted Jim’s memorial in their home. I am so happy that she had kind Ray to share the rest of her life with. We will love them forever. We started out sisters-in-law and grew into sisters. Our hearts hurt to say goodbye.
With love,
Linda and Donna
