Obituary of Harvey Richard Douglas Dacey

DACEY, Harvey Richard Douglas

We celebrate the life of Harvey Dacey who passed away July 16, 2020 at the age of 98 years. Harvey was born and raised in Regina.  He completed 9 years of education and started work at the Army and Navy Department store where he dressed the store windows, painted the store and Sam Cohen’s house and made store deliveries.  Harvey joined the Navy in 1942.  He was commissioned to the flower class Corvette Mayflower where he was a stoker first class and at the depth charge launcher when on maneuvers.  His corvette escorted numerous ships around the North Atlantic and was also present on the D-Day invasion.  On a leave in 1944, Harvey returned home and married Lillian. Harvey was discharged in August of 1945 after being demobilized and returned to Regina to raise a family. He worked for Regina Light and Power where it was eventually amalgamated with Saskatchewan Power Corporation. Harvey worked on the boiler controls and in later years with the training and development department.  Harvey retired after 36 years of service.  During retirement, Harvey and Lillian spent numerous years enjoying the winters in Phoenix. He liked to garden and enjoyed working on watches and clocks.  Harvey could repair anything and everything. He was our “MacGyver”.  Harvey was predeceased in 2015 by his loving wife Lillian of 71 years and his son Richard in 2002.  He is survived by his daughter Lynn; daughter-in-law Kaylee; two sons Garth (Joanne) and Tim (Karen); nine grandchildren Angela, Chrissy (Dave), Michael, Cathy (Chris), Cheryl (Glen), Pam (Tim), Jessica (Nick), Matt, Curtis; six great-grandchildren Gregory, Sarah, Nathan, Madelyn, Allison and Nolan. Thank you to all of the staff at the Pasqua Hospital 3A Palliative Care Unit.  And a special thank you to Cheryl and Joe at the Four Seasons Care Home for their kindness, love and care for the last three years.
