Obituary of Phyllis Daleise Ackerman
In the midst of summer’s magnificent blooms of flowers and gardens growing, was the perfect time for mom to leave everything here in earth’s flower beds and gardens, successfully “tended” to. On August 2nd, 2020, our mom, at the age of 82, Phyllis Daleise Ackerman, was able to join dad after many years apart. Following a very brief illness, mom was called home. Always the silent observer, dad saw mom was hurting and knew what he had to do. So, he fired up the old Chev, hooked up the camper trailer and came and picked up mom bright and early Sunday morning. Picture the two of them sitting in that old station wagon dad saying his old line, …”We’re going 400 dollars this way and 400 dollars back”! Mom sitting there holding the map, most likely in the wrong orientation, as dad asks which direction, and after careful consideration mom replies “Up”! Dad looks over and says “After 60 plus years, you’ve finally got the right direction. Let’s go.” Happy trails you two. From preparing Christmases in our tiny house, which would fill up with noise and laughter, to having so many family and friends in our backyard for family and neighbourhood gatherings, mom was the happiest surrounded by those she loved. Aunts, uncles, cousins and friends alike seemed to all gravitate to mom and dad’s backyard. Her beautiful flowers could be enjoyed by all, and everyone always felt welcomed and loved. Mom’s passion for flowers, from the tiny greenhouse on the side of the garage, to the overflowing, colourful flowerbeds throughout the yard for, to enlisting the grandchildren to assist her in the greenhouse, mom’s knowledge and love has been passed down to the generations. From her children, to her grandchildren, to her great grandchildren, her knowledge and advice about all things that grow, was truly a gift to us all. Phyllis loved her children more than anything, but her grandchildren were beyond compare to anyone else’s. She loved them with all her heart and soul. When the great grandchildren started to come along, her love for them knew no bounds. The smile of a baby would light up her face and when they giggled, she would laugh with love in her voice. These, her beautiful babies, helped to bridge the gap while waiting to be with dad again. Phyllis will be lovingly remembered by her children

As per Mom’s wishes, there will not be a service, but a private family gathering will be held at a later date. Although her friends and family won’t be gathering together to share their loss, she would be so happy, by any who knew her, if you just stop and take a quiet moment to yourself and smile with a happy memory, and maybe plant a flower or two. “If I had a single flower for every time I think about you, I could walk forever in my garden.” – Claudia Adrienne Grandi
