Obituary of Keith McLean

 MCLEAN, J. Keith

We celebrate the life of J. Keith McLean who passed away on August 3, 2020 at the age of 90 years after a brief struggle with cancer. Kindness, honesty and loyalty were the values by which he lived his life. Keith was a devoted husband of 61 years to Shirley Anne and a loving father to daughters, Heather (Jim) Vermeersch and Shelly (Mick) Williams. He was a proud grandpa to Brad (Larissa) and Ethan and overjoyed to recently become great-grandpa to Teddy.  Keith was born in Bethune, SK on February 13, 1930 and moved to Regina at the age of 14.  He began his trade in 1946 and received his Journeyman certificate in April 1950. He worked as a builder, renovator and in later years, a realtor.  Keith’s strong work ethic was instilled in him by his mother Agnes, a Scottish war bride.  From the time he was a young boy he always had a job and when he was recently admitted to hospital, indicated that his occupation was semi-retired.  While working on a job for the government he met Shirley Anne. They were married in May 1959.  Keith centred his life around family, church and friends. He spent many summers camping, and he and Shirley Anne enjoyed special trips to Alberta, BC, Hawaii, the British Isles and eastern Canada – all family-related trips.  Keith enjoyed cooking and baking and was well known for his biscuits, which many frequently feasted on.  He also loved coffee time with his many buddies.  He grew up surrounded by music and continued to enjoy concerts, playing the guitar and fiddle, and singing and chording on the piano. Keith will be lovingly greeted by Agnes and his father, Herb, siblings Roy, Geraldine, Denis and Boyce, as well as many brothers and sisters in-law.  He was beloved by many nieces, nephews and friends. The family are very grateful for their love and support throughout this time.  We would like to extend our thanks to Dr Baumann and the incredible staff at Grace Hospice, Dr. Llewellyn-Williams and his staff for their care over the years, and the staff of the Bentley Hillsdale Retirement Residence. Due to COVID-19, a private service will be held on Friday, August 7, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. We invite you to join us for the service, which will be livestreamed online.  Please click on the link to Speers TV at the top of Keith’s Tribute Page. Flowers gratefully declined.  Donations may be made in memory to Regina Wascana Grace Hospice, 50 Angus Road, Regina SK S4R 8P6. Keith’s positive attitude will be missed but we will “keep happy” as he would have wanted.
