Obituary of Nancy Mae Underwood (Loutzenhiser)

NANCY MAE UNDERWOOD (LOUTZENHISER)

Nancy passed away on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at the age of 76 years following a long struggle with dementia. She was born and raised in Binghamton, New York. After completing her university education at the University of North Dakota, Nancy moved to Moose Jaw with her first husband, Gary Loutzenhiser.  After raising her three children in Moose Jaw, Nancy remarried and moved to Windsor Ontario, returning to Saskatchewan in 2014 to live out her final years. Trained as an occupational therapist, Nancy provided care and support to individuals both in hospital settings (Moose Jaw Union Hospital, Wascana Rehabilitation Centre) and in their own homes (Windsor).  When her children were young, Nancy took a break from occupational therapy to own and manage Prairie West Books, an independent bookstore located on Main Street in Moose Jaw. Her sharp intellect, dry sense of humour, passion for her work, love for her children and grandchildren will be greatly missed by her family.  Predeceased by her parents, Lucille and Howard Meaker, she is survived by her children Lynn (Eldon) of Regina, Glen (Eleanor) of Oxford, UK, Marc of Regina, grandchildren Joshua, Maya and Toby, her husband Greg Underwood of Windsor, ON, her sisters Kathy Ellis of Knoxville, TN, and Donna (Jack) Lewis of Charleston, WV and her brother Dennis (Jeanne) Meaker of Nashville, TN. A private family memorial will be scheduled at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Nancy’s name to the charity of your choice.
