Obituary of Sister Victoria Stella Helena Seibel

SISTER VICTORIA SEIBEL (Sr. MARY ST. ELIZABETH)

Sister Victoria died peacefully in her sleep in the early hours of February 1, 2018 at the Santa Maria Senior Citizens Home. She was predeceased by her parents, Emil and Theresia Baumgartner Seibel; two brothers, Henry and Ed Seibel; four sisters, Anne Seibel, Adeline Molter, Emilie Seibel and Ella Seibel; sister-in-law, Marge Seibel; brother-in-law John Molter; and nephew Joseph Molter. Sister Victoria is lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews; grand nieces and nephews; great-grand nieces and nephews; and all members of her religious family, the Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions, with whom she lived and worked for 78 years. Sister was born on a farm on the outskirts of Regina and received her early education in a nearby one room school and in Regina. She went on to get her teaching certificate from Regina Normal School before she answered her call to be a Sister. She completed her formal education by obtaining her BA and later her MA from the University of Ottawa. Sister loved teaching and this career spanned thirty four years; twenty one at Sacred Heart Academy, two at Lebret Public High School and eleven more at Sacred Heart College and Marian High School. During this time she often was principal as well as high school teacher. Her second career began when she was called to Rome in January 1973 to take on an administrative post in the area of finance and accounting. In this work she travelled extensively to visit our sisters in England, France, India, Bangladesh, and Burma and to assist them in setting up adequate accounting procedures. She returned to Canada after eleven years and began tutoring new Canadians as well as working in the parish. Sister’s final years were spent enjoying nature, reading, visiting with friends and family and of course working on crossword puzzles and sudoku. The Sisters wish to express their appreciation to Santa Maria spiritual care and nursing staff for their compassionate care of Sister. Funeral Mass will be held at Santa Maria, 4215 Regina, Avenue, Regina, SK, on Thursday, February 8, 2018 at 10:00 a.m.  Family and friends so wishing may make memorial donations in Sister Victoria Seibel’s name to the Sisters Mission Fund, 393 Gaboury Place, Winnipeg, MB, R2H 0L5.
