VENDRAMIN, Lydia

April 24, 1942 – September 10, 2020
After a courageous battle with Cancer, Lydia passed away peacefully on Thursday September 10, 2020 in her home surrounded by her family at the age of 78. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 50 years Alojz “Louie”; her father Peter; mother Katherina; brothers Adam and Daniel; brothers-in-law Tony, Mirko, Rudy, Roman and Ivo; and sisters-in-law Lena, Hermina, Portia, Danila, Danica and Drugica. Left to cherish Lydia’s memory is her daughter Danila (Greg) Gibbs; sons, Tony (Shelley) Vendramin, and Dean (Ashley) Vendramin; grandchildren, Kayla (Kyle) Eberle, Nikki (Aaron) Gibbs, Krista (Mike) Grant, Billy Gibbs (Whitney), Xander Vendramin and Zach Vendramin; great-grandchildren, Easton, Lyla, Ivory, Cleo, Izzy, Stevie, and River; sisters, Jenny Mahnic and Gertrude Krosec; brothers, Ferg (Pat) Schmidt, and Martin Schmidt. She will also be missed by numerous nephews, nieces and friends. Lydia was born on April 24, 1942 in Rudolstadt, Germany. Her childhood in Germany occurred during the end of WWII and her family had to move numerous times. With life being hard in Germany her parents decided to immigrate to Canada. Lydia’s family settled on a farm near Old Wives, Saskatchewan where she grew up and went to school. She moved to Regina, Saskatchewan and one starry night she met her sweetheart Alojz “Louie” at the Trianon Ballroom. They were married on July 20, 1963 and were blessed with three children. In 1971 Louie and Lydia started up their company, A&C Blacksmith Shop, and worked hard to provide for their family. Lydia was the bookkeeper for the shop and a homemaker for her family. She was the best cook in the world, everyone raved about her homemade cutlets, soup, ribs, German potato salad and the list is endless. Holidays were filled with love in a welcoming home where friends and family were always welcome to share in meals and have a glass of rose wine or rye and ginger ale. Lydia loved her gardening, she had the most beautiful plants in her home and waves of red geraniums and petunias could be appreciated when sitting in her backyard. Most of all, she loved her family. We were all number one for her; there was nothing she wouldn’t do for us. She loved Louie, her children, her grandchildren and great grandchildren more than the whole wide world and was our angel here on earth. Now the angels have taken her to be with her sweetheart and be in the arms of God forever. We will miss you mom, grandma, and oma. “You didn’t deserve what you went through, so God gave you a rest. A private Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, September 18, 2020 at 1:00 pm. Interment to follow at Riverside Memorial Cemetery. Our family wishes to extend a special thanks to Dr. Blignaut and the nurses with the palliative home care team, their support and kindness was appreciated.
