Obituary of Donald Christian Spasoff
Following a brief but courageous battle with pancreatic cancer, Don Spasoff, late of Regina, SK, passed away in hospital on Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at the age of 75 years. He was predeceased by his parents Chris and Mary Spasoff; in-laws Bill and Doris Sheppit; and son-in-law Jim Simpson. Don is survived by his wife Pauline (Pinky) Spasoff; daughter Chris Spasoff; son and daughter-in-law Paul and Tamara Spasoff; grandchildren, Evan Simpson, Zach Spasoff and Emily Spasoff; and sister Sandra Short.
Don had an early interest in cars, spurred on by his father’s automobile and auto body businesses. This led to him becoming involved in sports car racing in Saskatchewan, as well as a career operating Regina Auto Wreckers before moving into a second career looking after his rental properties. Photography and knife making were some of Don’s hobbies, while hunting and the outdoors were his major passions. He was involved with many organizations over the years to benefit and sustain wildlife in Saskatchewan, most recently the Regina Fish and Game League.
Above all else, the love of his life was his wife Pinky. Last October they celebrated their 55th year of being happily married. Don and Pinky enjoyed spending time at the cottage they built at the Resort Village of Mistusinne on Lake Diefenbaker, in addition to traveling and spending time together. He was also a loving grandparent, who provided plenty of attention and affection to his grandchildren, and attended many of their hockey and ringette games.
Although he faced long odds against this particular type of cancer, Don never complained, lost hope or felt sorry for himself. He was an inspiration for all of us and we will miss him dearly.
Don was a generous person who could light up a room with his bright eyes and easy smile. He loved to talk and chat with anyone and everyone. He has left a huge hole in our hearts and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. A celebration of his life will be held at The Atlas Hotel in Regina, 4177 Albert Street, on Thursday, June 24, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. Don did not like wearing a suit and tie, so please dress casually in his honour.
