Lillian McArton

Obituary of Lillian Elsie McArton

1925-2021

Lillian McArton passed away in Regina on September 9, 2021 at 96 years of age. Lil was born to James and Mary Laing and grew up on the family farm near Dilke with six sisters and two brothers. She attended school at Wilkie Bay and Dilke. After completing high school, Lil worked at Simpsons in Regina. In 1948 she married Wilfred (Bob) McArton in Dilke, where they farmed and raised their three children. They moved to Bethune in 1990.

Lil was predeceased by her husband in 1998. She is lovingly remembered by her children Janet (Bud) Spencer of Calgary, Ken (Shannon) McArton of Dilke and Brian McArton of Bethune; her two grandchildren Rachelle (Kevin) Spencer Mikita of New Jersey, USA and Derrick (Shannon) Spencer of Langley, BC; two great-granddaughters Anastasia and Lise Spencer; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Mom was a kind, capable and talented woman. She enjoyed her many friends and the sociability of community life. Mom took a keen interest in sports and enjoyed curling and golf. Her creative pursuits included quilting, crocheting and needlepoint. She kept a lovely garden, taking a lot of pleasure from her flowers. Like many women of her generation, Mom was a great cook and exceptional baker. In later years, failing eyesight prevented her from enjoying many of her favourite pastimes, but she retained a keen sense of humour and a cheerful and positive spirit.

A family service of remembrance will be planned for a later date. Donations in Lil’s memory may be made to the CNIB, 2160 Broad Street, Regina, SK S4P 1Y5
