Obituary of Timothy Joseph Murphy
Timothy Joseph Murphy, first born child of Bernard and Mary Murphy, passed away July 10, 2022 while golfing at Madge Lake. He was 66. Partner to Robin. Step father to Denby. Brother to Greg and Colleen. Uncle to Shea, Luc, Taylor, Chloé and Geneva. Friend to so many. Sensitive, intuitive, creative, and caring, Tim will be greatly missed.
As a child, there was little Tim could not do. He could draw and paint. Ace every subject in school. And bury the puck where grandma kept the cookies. A renaissance child who became a renaissance man.
Though an excellent centre man and captain of his hockey team, in high school Tim’s interests turned to individual sporting activities, especially those that could be enjoyed outdoors. Snow skiing. Water skiing. Windsurfing. Tennis. Squash. Golf. Hockey. Running. Cycling. Always shared with good friends he made along the way.
Tim saw the world. He worked in faraway locales from the Beaufort Sea (drilling for oil) to South Africa (banking and finance) to the US Southwest (lighting) as well as back home in Regina (as a practicing lawyer and in operations management and creative endeavors with New Dance Horizons). He travelled extensively, sometimes solo, sometimes with friends and everywhere he went he made friends along the way. Katepwa Lake was his special place.
Never boastful or envious, Tim was that rare person who sincerely reveled in the accomplishments and successes of others. A bit of a lone wolf who kept to himself, he was always fully present for family and friends in times of need and celebration. His generosity and kindness were felt by many.
Predeceased by his parents, Tim is survived by his soul mate and life partner Robin Leigh Poitras, step-daughter Denby Royal, brother Greg (Lorrie), sister Colleen (Henri Chabanole), nephews Shea (Jessica — Kayson and Saylor), Luc Chabanole (Brittany Liang) and Taylor (Lindsay — Wells and Lawson) and nieces Chloé Chabanole (Stéphane Beaulac) and Geneva.
A celebration of Tim’s life is planned for August 11 in Regina. Those wishing to gather and share in memory of Tim please send a note to Colleen at (colleen.murphy@uregina.ca). Further details including location and time will follow by email invitation.
Those so wishing may make a donation to the Lakeshore Tennis Club, New Dance Horizons/Rouge-gorge, or the Regina Musical Club.
