Obituary of Jay Wong

WONG, Jay (Tong Gee)
1942 - 2022

Jay (Tong Gee) Wong, of Regina, Saskatchewan, died peacefully at the General Hospital on Monday, September 19, 2022, at the age of 80 years.

Jay was born in Taishan, Guandong, China on August 28, 1942. The youngest of four children, he spent his teenage years in Hong Kong before immigrating to Canada in 1968 to join his siblings, who were already laying down roots in Regina.

From the early 70's to late 80's, with limited English skills but a strong work ethic, Jay operated Dale's Confectionary, a small family-owned corner store located on 13th Avenue, right in the heart of Cathedral.

When not working, Jay found enjoyment watching sports, going out for coffee with friends, and playing Mahjong until the late hours of the night.

Jay was a quiet person and a man of few words, often preferring to listen rather than speak. He was always quick to lend a helping hand to friends in need and would never ask for anything in return.

Jay is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Denise; son Kevin and his wife, Chelsea and their children Edison and Hollis; sister Lorri (Louis), brother Fern (Cindy); and nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.

Interment will take place at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery, 815 Assiniboine Avenue East, Regina, SK, on Friday, September 30, 2022, at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a charity of your choice.
