Our deepest sympathy goes out to Babynec Family and all of Richards friends. The memory of Richard will live on in so many of the things that we do everyday. We shared a love for fishing whether for tiny perch in the winter, carp in the spring or the massive catfish on the Red River north of Winnipeg whenever we could get there. He was always up for dipping a line in lakes, rivers and ponds. Temperature didn’t matter because we fished even when the thermometer read -30C. Rich was simply a part of the extended family when it came to our annual June northern expedition to Lac LaPlonge and Little Peters Pond for lakers and walleye. His passion for nature was evident to anyone who knew him. I could always count on the nerd in Rich to identify an unknown specifies of fish, animal, bug, plant when I sent a mystery picture to him. I could be confident the research geek side of him would return the full wiki version of what I saw. Each year in July we had some crazy fun poker games during our annual trip to Clear Lake. For those who know Rich, he was definitely not a drinker but every once in a while, a few rum and coke and glasses of wine turned him into a cartoon ninja warrior. He would hurt the next day after staying up half the night with Wanda and Diane He had a passion for growing flowers and vegetables. Over the years Rich sought out the perfect tomato plant. Six years ago he started to grow his preferred heirloom variety from the previous year’s harvested seed. He gave Wanda one of those plants each year which she grew on our deck …. even though in the last couple years I had a dozen other tomato plants. Last summer he packaged and gave us 60 of those seeds and labeled them Ricardo’s Heirloom Cherry Tomatoes, 7th generation. Richard will live on when we grow those tomato plants.

I'm so sorry for your loss Richard was such a great down to earth person. He thought me so much in the optical feild and life challanges. I am thankful I got the pleasure to work with him for many years. His great personality will never go unmissed.

Richard will be remembered fondly. I worked with Richard for almost 20 years, and he became a wonderful friend to Doug and myself. We had so many great times over the years, and wonderful memories. Our condolences to Ernie and family, Richard was a very special person.

My wife and I were customers of Richard for more than 20 years. He was kind and very personable and while getting our glasses he always took the time for a visit as well. We were disappointed when he retired and are very saddened to hear or his passing. Doug and Joan Middleton
