HEXTALL, Sandra Dale

1943 – 2023

Sandra Dale Hextall (nee MOSS), 79 years of Regina, SK passed away peacefully on June 5, 2023.

Sandra was born November 15, 1943, to Charles and Charlotte (nee Philip) Moss of Wolseley, SK. She grew up in the Wolseley area, living in BC and Saskatchewan, eventually settling in Regina, SK.

Sandra was predeceased by her parents Charles and Charlotte Moss and brother Robert Moss. She is survived by her siblings Patricia (Wayne) Salter, Roy (Linda) Moss; sister-in-law Joan Moss; her children, son Kirk (Meranne), grandson Mason and great grandson Braxton; daughter Kim MacDonald (Murray) and grandchildren Bree, Eden and Erik; son Cory (Jennifer), and grandchildren Morgan, Brooklynn, Jack and Quinn; son Donevan and grandchildren Benjamin and Maxwell Hextall and Hannah (Nate) Broaddus with great grandchild Nolan. Numerous nieces and nephews (you know who you are) were very precious to her as well.

Mom was a fiercely independent and forthright woman who lived with intention. Her generous and giving spirit was starkly present in how she loved and cared for family and friends with loyalty and unwavering abandon. Her determination to make the world a better place was apparent in her involvement in politics, work in the health care system and active participation in her communities.

As her niece Stacey so aptly highlighted, Mom bucked trends in the 70’s through 90’s on where and what women should be. Her organizational and management skills from family softball games to boardrooms was inspirational. She saw the inequity in society and had a passion for advocating for others towards better outcomes. She tirelessly championed the underdog, demonstrating a strong sense of social justice and staunch empathy. Her resolve at times was a challenge to keep up with, however, you never needed to guess where you personally stood with her. “Just call a spade a f***ing shovel” was one of her favorite quotes.

Mom was a talented artist, baker, quilt maker, accountant and gardener who loved getting immersed in her creativity and often gifted those treasures. She was proud of her family’s artistic and athletic flair and supported all their endeavors. Mom loved us all through the triumphs and tragedies of our lives.

We would like to sincerely thank Dr. Curtis, Dr. Baumann, and all of the nurses from the emergency department, unit 3E, palliative care and Grace Hospice, who provided exceptional care for Mom right to the end.

As a friend recently reminded us, grief is love with no place to rest, an emptiness that lingers, however a feeling we will separate from the memories and experiences we had.

 Love you Mom,

“Ar dheist Dé go raibh a hanam di’lis.”
