Obituary of Ronald Thatcher

EDWARD RONALD THATCHER It is with heartfelt sadness that the family announces Ron’s passing on Friday, June 28th, at the Regina General Hospital. Ron was predeceased by his wife Betty (nee Hughes) in 2006; his parents, Wilbert and Marjorie; his mother in law Myrtle; brothers, Ross, Clark, and Hugh (infant); his sister Joan (Dowsley); as well as numerous brothers and sisters-in-law. He is survived by his son Bill (Jan) Thatcher and their children Matthew, Michael, Mitchell, and Mark; and his daughter Joyce (Patrick) and their children Kyle and Kevin; as well as numerous members of his extended family. Ron was born in Limerick, Saskatchewan on May 11, 1926, but grew up in Moose Jaw. He achieved his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Manitoba, and eventually settled in Regina managing Thatcher’s Hardware, then enjoying a career in sales with Estevan Brick and raising his family. Ron’s favourite pastimes were gardening and enjoying the outdoors. He continued to enjoy his backyard until the last few days of his life, and for this we are very thankful. He also loved reading and watching his baseball and football games on television. He was a lifelong fan of the Detroit Tigers, Toronto Blue Jays and the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Ron was also a long time member of the Regina Rotary Club and St. Luke’s Anglican Church. But most importantly, he was a wonderful father and a proud grandfather to six grandsons. His sense of humour and his caring ways will be greatly missed. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at St. Luke’s Anglican Church, 3233 Argyle Road, Regina, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Willie Lourens presiding. Interment in Riverside Memorial Park. Our genuine appreciation is given for the wonderful care Ron received from both the Regina EMS Response Team and the staff at the Regina General Hospital Coronary Care Unit during his last few days. Also, a special thank-you goes out to Dr. Stewart McMillan and his staff for the quality care they have provided him over many years. Flowers are gratefully declined. Those who wish to donate in Ron’s memory can do so to the Hospitals of Regina Foundation, Box 1697, #225-1874 Scarth Street, Regina SK, S4P 3C6 or online at www.hrf.sk.ca.
