Obituary of Eveline Alvina Fenske

EVELINE ALVINA FENSKE January 23, 1936 – August 26, 2013 Eveline passed away peacefully with family by her side at the Pasqua Hospital on Monday, August 26, 2013 at the age of 77. She was predeceased by her parents, Norman and Mary Galbraith and her brother Leo of Preeceville / Rockford. She is survived by her husband Harold, of 54 years; four children: Carlisle Fenske (Glenn Smith); Sheryl Miller; Raelynn (Greg) Douglas; and Jaymes (Michelle) Fenske. She is also survived by ten grandchildren: Ryan, Erin, Ben Tonita; Deanna, Amy Miller; Claire, John, Rachael Douglas; Alexander, Xavier Edwards; sister, Doris (Ken) Summach of Kelowna, BC; sister-in-law Evelyn Galbraith of Yorkton and numerous nieces and nephews. Eveline grew up in Rockford, the daughter of the local Postmaster and his wife. By working in the Post Office, she came to know the Fenske family and met the love of her life at a very young age. After attending Teacher’s College in Saskatoon she started her teaching at Lilian Rural near Endeavour and then taught Home Economics and English at the Composite High School in Sturgis. Harold and Eveline were married in 1959 and after their first child was born in 1963, Eveline stayed home to devote her energies to raising their children and being a home maker. Eveline enjoyed being involved in Beta Sigma Phi, the Kinsmen Kinettes Club, running some home-based businesses, and put her home economics skills to good use by being a wonderful cook and sewing countless costumes and clothes. Many trips included those with their trailer to meet friends and family, down-hill skiing, and visiting their cabin in the Assiniboine River country. Eveline and Harold moved to Regina after Harold’s retirement. They made many friends in their new community and Ev enjoyed quilting and sharing stories with friends at the Prairie Piecemaker’s Quilting Guild and Connecting Threads. Her later years were devoted to her family, cooking wonderful meals and sewing quilts for every member of the family. Many quilts were used as donations to the neo-natal unit for premature babies. The family extends its gratitude to Dr. Antoinette LeRoux and the numerous doctors and nurses that provided excellent care to Eveline. A family celebration was held at Speers Family Centre, Regina, Sask. on Friday, August 30, 2013, family eulogies read by Greg Douglas. Flowers gratefully declined; donations may be made to the Rockford Community Cemetery, c/o Charles Arnason, Box 485, Preeceville, SK, S0A 3B0.
