Obituary of Roy William Antal

ROY WILLIAM ANTAL 1946 – 2013 Surrounded by his loving family, Roy passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 26, 2013 after a short but courageous battle with cancer. Roy was born on November 9, 1946 to John and Theresa Antal on the family farm near Cupar, SK where he spent the early years of his life. He moved to Regina in 1966, where he met and married the love of his life, Beverley (Blackwell). Roy began his career at the Leader-Post in 1970 and retired as chief photographer 41 years later. During Roy’s distinguished career some of the highlights included: covering his beloved Saskatchewan Roughriders, photographing numerous Prime Ministers, covering the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, and even meeting British Royalty. His most cherished photographs are the ones he took of his grandchildren, capturing all of the special moments in their lives. Roy will be remembered most during his career for being a friend to everyone he met and having a remarkable sense of humor that was with him right to the end. Some of Roy’s favorite things to do were traveling around the world with his best friend Bev, attending any activities that his grandchildren were involved in, hosting parties in his garage for friends and family, golfing with friends, and going for long walks around the lake with his beloved Zoe. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Theresa Antal; brother Ernie Antal; step-brothers, Frank and Tony Lovas; step-sister Mary Lovas; father-in-law and mother-in-law Elmer (Red) and Jean Blackwell; and his brother-in-law Gordon Blackwell. Roy is survived by his wife of 43 years, Beverley; and their two children, Jon (Jenny) Antal and Krista (Ken) Ross. He was a proud grandpa to Kennedy, Brady and Cody, Kassie, Ava and Emma whom he loved and cherished. Roy is also survived by his brother Len (Arlene) Antal; sisters, Irene Antal and Alice (Jack) Colby; brothers-in-law, Bob (Vi) Blackwell, Maitland (Heather) Blackwell and Lynn (Shirleyanne) Blackwell; sister-in-law Dorothy (Keith) Lewis; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Sincere thanks to all of the doctors and nurses that took care of Roy during his stay at the Pasqua Hospital, the General Hospital, the Palliative Care Unit, and the Palliative Home Care Unit.
