Obituary of Maureen Carol Langston

Maureen passed away peacefully at Rosedale Hospice in Calgary on Wednesday, November 27, 2013. She was born in Regina on March 4, 1948. Maureen was predeceased by her parents, William John Langston (2006) and Audrey Cavell Langston (2012). She attended Herchmer Public School and Scott Collegiate, Regina and the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, completing her Bachelor of Education with majors in mathematics and physical education. Maureen was a teacher with the Calgary Board of Education for 36 years, beginning in 1970 at Branton Junior High. She moved to Bishop Pinkham and Van Horne Junior High Schools and finished her career at Lord Beaverbrook Senior High School. Maureen’s life was filled with the things she loved – teaching, travel, golf, friends and family. She was a devoted daughter and prairie girl at heart - always returning to Regina for special holidays with family and friends. Maureen cared deeply about her students and did her best to ensure that they learned not only the subject matter, but the value of commitment, a strong work ethic, and being a “team” player. She was a great friend and opened her home to many friends and relatives over the years – for a day, a week, a month or longer. Throughout her five year journey with cancer, Maureen was supported and cared for by an army of friends, as well special cousins Lynn Thomson and Ken Langston. “You held my hand…I felt your strength…I was not alone”. (Dr. Elizabeth Latimer) She will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all who knew her.
