Obituary of Jean Van Iderstine
JEAN VAN IDERSTINE
Gladys Jean Van Iderstine passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at the age of 80. She was predeceased by her parents, John and Mary Goldsmith; close aunt Janet; sisters, Sadie and Mabel; and brother William. Jean is survived by her husband Ralph; daughter Cindy (Allen); son Brent; granddaughter Aleesha; sisters, Eileen, Ruth (Arnold) and Merle (Ron); brothers, James (Bev), George (Shirley), and Donald (Marlene); and many nieces and nephews. Jean strongly believed in the importance of family and demonstrated her deep commitment to people with intellectual disabilities throughout her life. She always had deep compassion and always found creative ways to support people in need including providing comfort through visits or phone calls, cooking meals, and knitting clothes and blankets. Jean was also an avid five pin and lawn bowler and was thrilled to compete on a national level numerous times. She also loved the Saskatchewan Roughriders and was a season ticket holder for years. Jean’s family would like to thank everyone for all their support. Special thanks to Dr. Ene and Regina General Hospital staff at 3E, especially Lerissa, Shab, Helen, Eric, Kim, and Greg. A Visitation will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK on Friday, April 4, 2014 from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. Jean’s life will be celebrated at Zion United Church, 120 Broad Street, Regina, SK on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. The interment for family will be held at Riverside Memorial Park, 815 Assiniboine Avenue East, Regina, SK on Monday April 7, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. The family gratefully declines flowers and asks that any donations in Jean’s memory be made to Kinsmen Telemiracle, 2217 C Hanselman Court, Saskatoon, SK, S7L 6A8 or initiatives that support people with intellectual disabilities.
