My dear Janet, Crystal, Kathy, Brian and family,
Am so sorry to hear the news about Ed and your loss!
Ed was a wonderful, kind and generous man and I always remember him smiling. He had a kind smile and a good kind heart!
Ed helped me so much and supported me when I most needed it! I loved that he praised Ukrainian culture so much. He made me appreciate my roots more than ever before. I am not the only person Ed helped. I know that he left a legacy that will last for eternity! All those people, Ukrainian community, people from all over Canada and world have been touched by Ed’s kindness & kindness is never forgotten! And neither will be Ed!
I am so sorry that life is so unfair and takes away good people so soon.
I am with you in my thoughts and in my heart! I wish I could be in Canada right now…
Mariya

Words seem inadequate in expressing the sadness we feel about Ed's passing. The Ukrainian community has lost a great leader and role model. Ed was a source of inspiration and encouragement to many. His hard work, dedication and teaching by example will be remembered and followed by the people he has touched. We consider ourselves fortunate to have known Ed. He will remain in our memories and will always have a special place in our hearts. We will miss his sense of humor, his helping hand and wise advice. Our hearts go out to you and your family in your time of grief. We are hoping that you will find comfort and support from your family, friends and community. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

I'm sorry for the great loss of Edward Lysyk respectfully may he rest in peace, The heartache can be hard to bear, the what if's will come and go but God's word will stand and his purposes are not like plans of men. And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, ...to everlasting life... Daniel 12:2

Since learning of Ed's death, I have been remembering the year at Law School in Saskatoon where we first met. Our little group of students had loads of fun along with grueling hours of study. Ed was a sweet young man who always made me laugh. We both had fathers who were in police forces so we had an easy bond right off the bat. we kept in contact after I left Law School and became a Regina City cop. Then I moved to BC in 1981 and we lost contact.
He was so young and obviously enjoying his life. It seems lately that many of my family and friends are being taken by Cancer long before their time.
I will be digging out my photo album from 1974-75 today and reliving that time in our lives when everything seemed possible.
my sincere condolences to his family.

Janet, it is with a heavy heart that I read Ed has left this world! When I last saw him at a meeting two months ago, I never would have guessed that he would be leaving us so soon. He was energetic & upbeat, always with a great sense of humour that would pop up when you least expected it! Ed had a pure heart, always ready to help anyone, particularly those from his ethnic homeland, Ukraine. I would like to extend my thanks to you and Ed for your support of the Ukrainian student program for the past 10 years. It was a privilege and a joy to have the support of you both. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. Rest in Peace, Ed.

Ed was always young in heart and spirit. He was not a new person to any newcomer from Ukraine; in fact, he was felt like one of them. He was also my favourite Ukrainian language student as I was as well learning from him kindness in eloquence. It will not be the same place without him. Janet, our sincere condolences go to you and the family.

Ed passed away. I cannot believe it. He was an exceptional person - kind, carrying, helpful... the list can go on and on. He is the one who helped thousands of Ukrainian newcomers to get settled in Canada. Ed and I worked together on numerous cultural projects in Regina. With his help I was able to record and produce my Ukrainian album "Christmas is Rizdvo". He was the one who helped me with my immigration papers. In moments when I was loosing hope and faith in my long and winding immigration process he would just say: "It is fine... I know how it all works... Trust me, you will become a permanent resident of Canada" and I did. He was true Ukrainian even though he was born in Canada and could only speak a little Ukrainian. Ed dedicated his life to the Ukrainian community in Saskatchewan and he will be missed badly.... My thoughts and prayers are with his family... Ed was a real Ukrainian hero, and we know that HEROS NEVER DIE (HEROYI NE VMYRAYUT!!!)!
