Obituary of Bounepone Phonsavatdy

BOUNEPONE “BOONIE” PHONSAVATDY On Good Friday, April 18, 2014, our precious Boonie died with his loving wife and family at his side. Born on April 3, 1972 in Laos, Boonie, his six siblings, mother and father, and extended family moved to Canada in 1980. They lived a year in Montmartre, SK before moving to Regina. Boonie attended Holy Rosary and Miller High School, later taking graphic design at Medicine Hat College. He worked at FCC and was the lead graphic designer in their creative department. Boonie and Shaeya married on July 15, 2006, and in August 2009, their daughter Nylah was born. They lived a creative, happy, and fun-loving life together. For the three of them, life was beautiful and they walked out the door each day saying to Nylah, "Adventure is out there!" with arms brandished in the air. Boonie always maintained that we could get through anything as long as we looked after each other. He was kind, gentle, loving and calm. His smile and laugh were contagious; he was easy to love. No surprise his mantra was, “It’s All Good.” Boonie was blessed with venerable artistic talent. It seemed that everything and everyone he touched turned to gold. He was an artist through and through, and spent his life making life beautiful for others. Boonie was diagnosed with brain cancer (GBM) in January 2013. After being in hospital for months, his heart and determination brought him home where he remained until he was admitted into Palliative Care, only ten days before he died. Boonie leaves to cherish his memory his wife Shaeya; daughter Nylah Ray; parents, Mune and Kaysone Phonsavatdy; siblings, Mixay (Leigha), Khayphone Khamsisavatdy (Bounkong Inthavong), Phouthone Phonsavatdy, Phouvieng Phonsavatdy (Courtney Michalski), Phouvanh Phonsavatdy, Phoukhao Kacso (Craig); mother-in-law Joan Baliko (Les in 2013); sister-in-law Krista Baliko (Sarah James); and numerous loving family members. We will miss Boonie forever. Funeral Service will be held at Knox-Metropolitan United Church, 2340 Victoria Avenue, Regina, SK, on Saturday, April 26, at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Robert Kitchen presiding. Boonie’s favourite colour was blue – please feel free to wear blue in his honour. In lieu of flowers, a trust account has been opened for his daughter Nylah’s education. If you wish to contribute please send a cheque payable to Nylah Phonsavatdy c/o Investment Planning Council, 2260 Lorne Street, Regina, SK, S4P 2M7.
