Obituary of Jocelyn McIntyre

JOCELYN “JO” MCINTYRE 1930 – 2014 Violet Jocelyn McIntyre was born on August 28, 1930 in Regina to Jack and Violet Lucas. Jo passed away at home at the age of 83, on Monday, April 21, 2014, having enjoyed a wonderful Easter Sunday with the family the day before. She is survived by and will be lovingly remembered by her sons, Rand (Glenys), Rich (Bernadette) and Gord (Cheryl); grandchildren Lindsay (Graham Werstiuk) of Edmonton, Brandon (Robyn), Lisa and Shawn; great-grandchildren Julia and Keira Werstiuk; sister Phyllis (Mac) McDougall of Campbell River, BC; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins from across Canada. Jo was predeceased by her husband of over 60 years Stuart “Ike” in August 2013; her parents; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Don and Jacquie and Gordon and Marjorie McIntyre. Jo grew up in Regina and attended Central Collegiate and Balfour Tech. After high school she worked in the office at Imperial Oil. She and Ike were married on April 4, 1953 and she assisted with the growth of the family business - Kemsol Products, until the family expanded to three active boys, who kept Jo very busy. She was very involved with the community, teaching sign language for many years, volunteering at the Plains Health Centre with the library cart and she delivered meals-on-wheels to those in need. Jo served on many committees at Knox-Metropolitan United Church and the MacKenzie Art Gallery. She was an active member of the Kinette Club of Regina, the Shrine Bacchus Club, the Knox-Metropolitan Food and Fun Club, the Triple Links Sovereign Grand Lodge Independent Order of Odd Fellows and various Bridge Clubs. Jo was very musical and was an award winning member of the Sweet Adelines. She travelled throughout North America competing in world class events. Jo particularly enjoyed singing in a quartet with Jan Reinson, Birdie Prosofski and Dorothy Payne. They performed at many venues and celebrations throughout Regina. Jo and Ike enjoyed travelling, their time at the cottage at Buena Vista and good times with family and friends. Jo was dedicated to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was always connected via email and never missed an occasion with a card, a gift and a call. Jo was a classy, warm, friendly Mother, Mother-in-law, Sister, Grandma, Aunt and Friend. She will be missed. A celebration of Jo’s life will be held at Knox-Metropolitan United Church, 2340 Victoria Avenue, Regina, SK on Thursday, April 24, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the MacKenzie Art Gallery, 3475 Albert Street, Regina, SK, S4S 6X6 or the charity of one’s choice.
